This, IMO. Flight counters Susano'o techs, he can literally drag Itachi out of Susano'o, his attacks strike from all around so Yata isn't doing shit. Amaterasu is countered by sand.

People forget genjustu, and the fact that itachi can fly with his crows.

Including the part when itachi can evade all of gaara's sand attacks thanks to his straight commas. (Kcm naruto can attest to that..)

Gaara. He can fly. much higher chakra pool. Gaara could just kite for days and his defence is crazy and takes little chakra. itachi would run out of steam.

Gaara's sand has no chance of keeping up with Itachi's speed, especially when enhanced with Shunshin. A prime example is P1 Sasuke out-speeding the sand, and even faster in P2 could not keep up with Itachi's speed. Either way, Itachi knows his weakness(Stamina), so he would not waste it on Susanoo or Amatersu. Genjutsu will be the resort, as the crows can fly to get in range with Gaara, where Itachi can transmit his Genjutsu through to trap Gaara. Once inside, Itachi proceeds to finish it with Tsukuyomi.​

The final scan I posted also clearly said that it takes Gaara absolutely no effort to create sand from a natural landscape. Following that, the quantity of sand he used swept away entire
