itachi thought more about the village instead of his clan
he did admit that he shouldn't have hid anything from sasuke and that sasuke might have changed their mother and father but itachi was traumatized from war from an early age and had to stop the coup de etat

People who despise Itachi for what he did are either unrealistic or just blind to the truth. If Itachi did not slaughter the Uchiha, then an uprising would've happened; killing many other clan innocents. Furthermore, other nations would've entered the fray and further death and destruction would've ensued. Then what would have happened to most of this sites' favorite characters? Death. They would've died as young innocents. So, yes, he did what most others couldn't have done: He truly put the village's needs above his family's. He went for the greater good and not the selfish needs of the few. I salute him. For his critics, please give an alternative that would've saved others and sacrificed few..

no it wouldnt. your too certain of the outcome. its easy to figure out a better solution than genocide. itachi could have his father assasinated and then blame it on madara or some other external threat, then take over himself as uchiha leader. or have shisui kill himself only after taking down fugaku and making himself the village enemy.

no they wouldnt have. the other nations cant give less of a shit what konoha does with its time and power. if they were so set on destroying them for petty revenge theyd have done it after obitos attack and minatos death
wrong. he chose a corrupt governments way of doing things over the humane way to settle the conflict. he could have made himself a common enemy after killing his dad, if thats what it took to unite the village. anything to spare human lives. he made absolutely sure that every single fukin uchiha died. rather than, say, the core ringleaders. which is heinous and corrupt.
what i want to know is, if thats true and the village had the right idea ordering such a thing, why did they go to such lengths to cover it up? just tell the truth. fuk what sasuke thinks.
if the needs of the many was so important to itachi, how come he
- lied to the entire world
- refused to make a move against orochimaru/kabuto for 10 years
- refused to even slow down akatsuki
- did not inform tsunade and her officers of the situation

to ensure konoha's destruction and sasukes death at haku's hands
- tortured kakashi to an inch of his life via stabbing him for 72 hours
- subjected sasuke to horrifying mental rape three times, mocked him, tormented him and beat him into a coma
- tormented naruto for no reason
- tried to lump all his problems on narutos shoulders
- did nothing to stop orochimaru or danzo or pain. asuma and jiraiya died to get informaiton itachi should already have given them
- supported and trusted danzo who is a psychopathic murderous brainwashing thug.
- supported hiruzen who is a weak willed fool who let danzo and oro do whatever they wanted
- supported akatsuki and didnt even slow them down
- tried to brainwash and enslave sauske for eternity

right...and not one single uchiha was innocent? not one single uchiha was controlled or coerced into their actions? also if konoha was so set on sparing innocent lives why did they put uchihas into such a corner in the first place and blame them for something without any proof?
as the 4th shinobi world war proves, all you need to settle old grudges is a common enemy, and akatsuki could provide that. as could itachi. he never needed to kill a single soul, just prove himself to be a threat to both sides.
also if killing the few to save the many is so important to him, i say again why in gods name did he just sit on his ass and let danzo and oro gain power after power?
show me a manga scan of an uchiha killing a civilian. or planning to kill a civilian. and show me a manga proof of konoah being all innocent and lovey dovey and not deserving of being overthrown.
let me guess, you condemned the entire rebel alliance in star wars because they planned on fighting the empire who hadnt done anything to them except oppress their rights? well thats what happened to uchihas. they got oppressed by the same village they had built from the ground up, fought and died for with their blood and guts.
