No it's not the same. A well written character doesn't have to be liked/wanked, A well written character is one you can appreciate even tho you hate/like him.

My favorite could be Kiba, Does that mean i think he's a well written character? Lol

Yea, I didn't think much of it, But now that i think about it, Yea hes not really all that great but the rest are.

No such thing as "Best character".

Liking the good guy nowadays is too mainstream, so to majority they aren't the best characters. (Loki and Thor are good examples of that.)

Villains..... eh don't portray the values of society like the good guys.


Side characters..... usually the fan underdogs that are supported by the fans. Don't usually have a good story compared to the main character.

Well, what makes a well written character for you?

Their portrayals, how they play their roles, how "human" they are, how they fit and live in the crafted world and society by author.

I can make small analysis for the listes characters because there are too many factors what makes a character "well written" in their own rights; but that would be time consuming.
