I'd like to leave a comment about the whole Itachi failed at life thing.
He did and did not fail at the same time, well let's see when Itachi was alive he did everything to protect Sasuke, even from the truth, thus he portrayed himself as a loathable Uchiha that killed his own clan for his own selfish desires.
After Hiruzen died he payed Konoha a visit in order to capture Naruto and kicked Sasuke's ass, that's what we have seen at first in the Manga, but later it has been revealed that Itachi simply visited Konoha to tell Danzo:"I'm still alive, break our contract and you're dead."
Anyways he even went so far in protecting Sasuke, that he took in consideration "What if Sasuke learns about the truth, what if he decides to go after Konoha?",knowing his little brother he knew that he would seek out for more power (EMS) before attempting his assault on Konoha, so he force fed a crow with Shisui's MS that would automatically react to his eyes to Naruto and sub conciously tell Sasuke to protect Konoha.
Technically he would've succeeded if it weren't for Kabuto Edo Tenseing everyone including himself and having Koto Amatsukami used against him.
Those two factors pretty much screwed up Itachi's original plan, that is where he failed, but he also succeeded somehow, after all Sasuke does not seem to bear any hatred towards Konoha anymore and even if he did, Itachi said so himself "I will always love you!"
Itachi also admitted that he had failed, that he should've been more open towards Sasuke instead of trying to shelter him from the truth at any cost even after death.
