Six-year-old Hunter Yelton, a first grader at Lincoln School of Science & Technology in Canon City, Colorado, was recently suspended for kissing a girl in his class on the hand.

Hunter spoke and explained, "It was during class yeah. We were doing reading group and I leaned over and kissed her on the hand. That's what happened."

The boy went on to take responsibility for what he did, "She sent me to the office, fair and square. I did something wrong and I feel sorry. I’ve been trying to be good at school."

Hunter got in trouble because his actions fit the elementary school’s definition of ‘sexual harassment.’ So now Little Hunter has a record with school district RE-1 as a sexual harassment offender:

It’s terminology that Hunter’s mother, Jennifer Saunders, felt was inappropriate saying, “'Sexual harassment.’ This is taking it to a, to an extreme that doesn't need to be met with a six-year-old. Now my son is asking questions, ‘What is *** mommy? It should not ever be said, ‘***,’ in a sentence with a six year old."

This is not Hunter’s first run in with the school authorities

He’s been suspended in the past for rough-housing and for kissing the same girl from this most recent incident, on the cheek.

The female classmate and her parents have not come forward but according to Ms. Saunders, "She was fine with it, they are ‘boyfriend and girlfriend’. The other children saw it and went to the music teacher.” Hunter’s mom says that she has made efforts to work with her son on improving his classroom behavior by grounding him and giving him, “…very big restrictions.” It does seem like there have been discussions at home because the young man has his own articulate explanation for why he does what he does saying, “I just have a lot of energy. I mean six-year-olds. They have a lot of energy."

I don't get this, if a six year boy kisses in the hand of a girl it is Sexual harassment?? Oh god, then what about the real sexual offenders??
I don't know if that boy even knows meaning of 'love', to have a 'girlfriend', they must have been doing it just for fun, or to look like an 'adult'. Schools like these suck.Zzz

damn, he is now scarred for life. imagine at 18 he is trying to get a job and the interviewer asking "why does it say here you sexually harrased a girl at the age of 6?"

way to go at again not protecting anyone but severly punishing innocent people, hooray for legal system!

Wow glad I'm not American, why take things to the extreme, kissing a girl on the hand - what's wrong with that
American has nothing to do with it geez, what a quote of ignorance. Its the school system in that region, its not like that in every state/county district.

it probably comes from generalization of what "sexual harrasment" means. i'm sure in some book in that school they have a law that reads something like "a student kissing another student on any part of the body is prohibited and considerd sexual harrasment". so i can kiss her on the forehead and it will be sexual harrasment.

maybe in a couple of years parents won't be allowed to kiss their children. then the world will really start to be ****ed up.

I'm basing it on a lot of instances and the general school system in the states, lived in Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, and NY. They take things to the extreme
I beg to differ, it depends on what district within that state, some states could be what you call "extreme" and yet have many "liberal" school districts within that state, which would negate your absolute assumption based on personal experiences which are not a basis of absolution.

They're making this out bigger than it was to move past the shooting that happened here at the high school.

This record is going to "haunt" him for life in in correct. Once he goes to middle school it'll be erased. They just want to instill in him proper conduct, it's not like he was criminally charged. It's a silly yes but it does work for kids his age.

How do I know this? I've been suspended for basically the same thing in the same state when I was in 3rd grade. It drops off you're record when you go into middle school. This happens a lot, it's not new.

It's just to switch topics from the shooting around here.
