Nagato easily broke through his defences which was said to be safeguarded 24/7 and even children were inspected, but nagato got him when he was sleeping lol, he was vulnerable in his current location lol

Yea Nagato was smart about the situation. Planned and was ready to kill! lol

Hanzou was the only ninja To ever injure Nagato (not 6POP because they are all ready dead).

Unlike Itachi and Hiruzen, we've actually SEEN Hanzo in his prime. We know what he's capable of and we know that he is a highly profficient ninja. And during the second ninja war...he surely must have been the strongest ninja around? His poison is something which can barely ever be survived except for in special cases like Hidan and Reanimations, he defeated and titled the middle-aged Sannin, seemingly having no problem defeating them yet being impressed by their skills, defeated Mifune effortlessly, took down Akatsuki with his organisation and survived Nagato and the Gedo Mazu?!!??!

The guy is goddamn tricky and smart to get out of the Gedo Mazu attack alive and I can't think of anyone in his prime era who could defeat him. Especially with the summoning, his good fighting skills with his weapons (even in his old age) how difficult he is to get close to and how sly and manipulative he can be. He also fought with a sense of honour in his prime, letting Mifune, Tsunade, Jiraiya & Orochimaru survive after they had lost.

Hiruzen was old and had no counter for poison (also arguably could not top 3 sannin)
Hanzo in his prime still remains stronger than both Tsunade and Jiraiya (Orochimaru is debatable)
Kage of his time were his only threat, which I don't see likely as having a counter to his poison or his vast set of skills.

This guy was a machine. Shame he went senile with old age. If you can think of someone stronger in that time period seriously, let me know- im curious.

This is a solid post. Thank you. You are one of the few on this forum capable of this feat. For all those who are saying he ran away from Nagato this is of course true but hardly due to cowardice. He didn't seem to fear Nagato until he got a clear look at his Rinnegan. And when Nagato summoned Gedo Mazo it would have been even more foolish for him to stay and fight. Shinobi and samurai were different. For samurai you fought and died regardless of whether or not it was more feasible to run away. For shinobi survival was far more important. The mere fact that Honzo could do anything he wished basically unchecked speaks volumes of his power - and by default Nagato's as well.

Even more so, it took Nagato a LOT of prep time to get mad, summon the Gedo statue and THEN start attacking with it, Hanzo was dealing with a very inexperienced rinnegan user and could've sniped him from the cliff at any time beforehand.

Honzo was skilled but you greatly oversimplify this conflict. Honzo had a great deal of prep work as well. Yahiko's revolutionary army (pretty much an Akatsuki of the people) put Honzo in a position where he had to ally with the Leaf. On top of mobilizing his forces alongside of Danzo's he was also in possession of Konan who was used as a hostage during this time. Honzo had to move a lot of pieces around before the negotiations went south (or went according to plan if you're Honzo).

anyway deva path solod him
no it was all 6 pains facing him
potentially be stronger in his Prime than Hanzo is Sakumo.
sakumos only claim to fame was being above the younger sanin individually in terms of respect

idk.. he did lose to pein., pein was like 1/6 of nagato lol
hanzo was old and hadnt trained in decades
ut he lacks large-scale and devastating jutsu that many upper tier characters have!
DC isnt the only thing you need as a fighter. hanzo is deadly without having to go around destroying villages. he KOs you by breathing

One word: he runned from nagato
and that is something to be ashamed of?

His time conflicts wit other strong ninjas living in his time. Like 3 Raikage, Muu, Onoki, Younger Hiuzen, Kakuzu, the strongest sand village kage and a few others. He was not the most powerful.

The sannins were weak seen with kunai and no summons. Thats why his land was used as a battle zone

Hiruzen wasn't weakened by age during the time of Prime Hanzou. Prime Hanzou was most likely stronger than Prime Hiruzen.

Enma Solos

and there you are Mellanoma <3

took your time. Itachi wasn't alive and Hiruzen was weathered by age and doesn't have an instant enough counter to the game-ending poison. Enma staff isn't doing much as Hanzo is a kenjutsu master. Hiruzen ends up paralysed or blown to smithereens. Of course you don't like actual debates do you Mella.

And yet so little is actually confirmed about Sarutobi. Until Prime Hiruzen gets manga time like Hanzo did we have to analyse him using the abilities we've actually seen. You can't prove anything with a character who doesn't exist Drae

What are you talking about? lol

I am not arguing for either hanzo or Hiruzen ( I stated off feats Hanzo wins early in the thread page one or two). Just stating the facts that They were both Prime at the same time. And according to Jman who knew both better then anyone probably, Hanzo Prime>Hiruzen. WHat are you talking about? :yeah:

Quick question; Too lazy to reread the fight Hanzo was in as an Edo Tensei. But, does one need to breathe in the poison gas to be effected? Or is exposure itself all that is needed?

Exposed. Breathing just makes it easier and faster. Either way you suffer from the poison.

Hanzo according to hype was one of the strongest Ninja in his Prime. Hanzo defeated all 3 Sannin w/ seemingly ease. People often bring up the fact that Sannin were weaker back then to down play this; i'm sure they were weaker, but nothing indicates they were weaklings; after all right after fighting Hanzo they became extremely famous for their strength. So they must have been very powerful as a single unit even back then. Also to put additional context on this, due to Jiraiya's experience against Hanzo back then, he concluded that it was impossible any living shinobi defeated Hanzo. This is despite the fact that Jiraiya was aware of Shinobi like Orochimaru, other powerful Akatsuki members, and of course himself; so he clearly considered Hanzo stronger than these shinobi. Than we have Nagato saying the reason Hanzo lost to Pain Rikudo was because he had become rusty clearly implying Hanzo in his prime would have had a chance to win.

People underrate Hanzo because of his performance as an Edo Tensei, but he was the single most handicapped Tensei in the war. Not only was he given the handicap of being rusty by the author, which is significant; Rusty Tsunade for instance was losing out to Part I Kabuto; however he also he was also handicapped in the sense that he went up against the one guy in the war that was immune to his poison. And now we find out all Tensei are weakened somewhat from their living form on-top of that.

Regardless of these handicaps Hanzo still managed to clash evenly against the strongest Samurai for over 5mins and then ultimately killed himself off by defying Edo Tensei commands; being the only Tensei to do that w/o outside assistence besides Hashirama.

Him running from Nagato is also another thing people use to downgrade him, but Nagato was a Rinnegan user whose abilities place him among the strongest in the Manga cannon, additionally one must consider that the hype of Rinnegan out stripped even Nagato's own power at the time and Hanzo probably had already begun his decline into becoming Rusty, as he clearly had already started resorting to tricks and underhanded tactics instead of taking to the battlefield directly himself.

So yeah Prime Hanzo by hype should at least be around Pain Rikudo's level, possibly even stronger. Now whether someone believes the hype or not is up to them; but Kishi consistently keeps hyping Prime Hanzo and provided a great deal of excuses for Hanzo to underperform to that hype. Granted him even his rusty state some of the most hax'd abilities in the manga cannon, such as Poison Breath, Poison Cloud, and the the physical ability to clash evenly w/ Master Samurai for over 5min despite being rusty and only requiring a scratch to win. So Kishi has not really hasn't given me a reason personally to doubt Prime Hanzo's strength
