With his Byakugan he could see Shisui's components and, knowing Shisui to be rizzle good with genjutsu, figured things out. See Hinata's encounter with Tobi for a clearer example of how Byakugan-users identify genjutsu. She looked for someone performing a genjutsu, not some sort of chakra differentiation on herself or her teammates.

I'm pretty sure that it was already said that the three dojutsus can see through all forms of nin, tai and genjutsu...

Neji had 3.5 at tai and 3 at speed while Lee had 3.5 at tai and 4 at speed yet Neji beat him every single time. He masters an actual style, and the mastered styled makes power of a fighter differing. Neji could beat a taijutsu master who is faster on foot yet he is the same level with the guy with generic taijutsu? Jyuuken>Gouken>>>>Generic stuff.

Zabuza has clones, water etc. Neji has his Own various abilities too that would make him look powerful as well. And the people count they beat is around the same level.

And i love how you ignore or dont even know Neji's capabilities but compare these two; there is not a single ınfo on Neji on the op how is that a comparasion? Plus one good ability can triumph multiple inferior ones.
Atleast i summed up Zabuza's abilities.
Plus they both have potential to defeat people around same numbers.
And like i said, some people are just sharp in certain areas; like Gaara, Deidara, Gai, 4th kazekage etc. yet they are more powerful than people like Asuma, Zabuza etc. Minato is op with FTG, intelligence and a rasengan.
Adding up Neji's byakugan and gentle fist has more and versatile usages than taijutsu.

the only thing the byakugan cant see through is certain barriers, the mist is useless against a byakugan user.
and a simple blade like that cant do anything to neji all he has to do is rotate

I'm not going to make a list of who can beat more ninjas though but I have a hunch that Neji can beat a slightly more number of people and with slightly less difficulty than Zabuza can. Neji can't beat more than Zabuza...no way. I know this isn't what you meant but he can also beat multiple high level ninja's at the same time with his mist. His mist was even noted by Kabuto to be great with dealing with multiple ninja. Zabuza is more versatile, can take on more opponents, a little stronger jutsu, but a lot more well rounded.

Zabuza's sillent killing + mist cant be countered by everyone, it can just be countered by sensors or OP opponents, while Neji's techniques are not all that impressive.
