There is a common misconception that James Potter is more powerful than Snape, or at least a better duelist. This is false.

The Misconception stems from the following argument:
When at Hogwarts, James would bully Snape and beat him at Duels and humiliate him in front of everyone.

This is not a good argument. James attacked Snape by surprise and James had three friends backing him up. In the words of Snape
"Coward, did you call me Potter? Your father would never attack me unless it was four on one, what would you call him, I wonder?" (Rowling, 603)

Yes James Potter is a coward. For those who say that he is brave because he gave up his life to protect his wife and son, that was a momentary quick death. Snape suffered through years of hardship and scorn in order to protect the wizarding world.

Snape in his prime is only below Dumbledore and Voldemort. Snape has been said to be a master duelist, knowing all sorts of defensive and Dark magic. Furthermore he was a master of Legilimancy and Occlumency.

By Feats, and Hype and objective analysis of skills, Snape is better than James.

Snape is also an amazingly created character, the best in the Harry Potter series.

Snape is the bravest character, as stated by Harry himself.

I only finished the series and became a fan last night, so I have to ask: There's actually people who think Severus<James in any way?

When I made my Harry Potter Top 10 list, some people in the comments said that James was better than Snape.

James have barely shown any feats though, but I still think the books have made it quite obvious that Snape is the stronger one. At least it seems to be implied.

-_- Movie watcher.

Anyways, I agree. u_u Snape makes most wizards look fodder, but James especially.

I'm pretty sure nobody thinks this, James Potter was a sh*tty character.

Characters like James and Snape should have been more featured more in Rowling's books. The moral ambiguity of Slytherin & Gryffindor is pretty crap, other than Snape himself the series basically said 'good awesome people go here, bad smelly nasty people go here' which.....sucks.

My only real problem with the Harry Potter series.
