Jimbei stated that the Blackbeard pirates were currently on a devil fruit hunt, or so the rumors said, and they hunted down devil fruti users to steal their abilities. If Blackbeard is able to have more than two devil fruits, then he's probably a beast right now.
I doubt Luffy and Shanks will actually fight. I recon after Luffy and whoever he is allies with defeats both Big mam and Kaido the red haired pirates and the Blackbeard Pirates will fight.
I have my own theory that Shanks will stand in Blackbeards way once Teach finds where Raftel is, since I'm almost certain Shanks knows where Raftel is. During this fight both Shanks and Mihawk will die which will eventually lead up to the strawhats fighting the Blackbeard Pirates on Raftel. Where it will be a final battle between Luffy and Blackbeard for One Piece and after Luffy defeats Blackbeard he will have surpassed Shanks and become Pirate King.

Shanks either to be defeated by Luffy or killed by a villain.

It took luffy 2 years being trained from the one that most likely trained shanks and he still has a long way to go before he can reach that level.
Blackbeard is focused on the devil fruit hunt, not only for him, but for his crew members, they must have found a way to have 2 DF(not only blackbeard)
BB did have haki before the timeskip. Iirc he commented on Luffy's haki pre timeskip. Having a greater haki is not = insta win. It's part of your overall power like physical ability, devil fruit etc. Blackbeard is the only special person that can have more than one devil fruit due to his body structure.
i don't think luffy will fight shanks, not a death match at least.

Well BlackBeard wants to finish Shanks, as we saw in Marinefolds arc, he said "We are not strong enough for you yet" another reason shanks has got to be strongest in the world right now since White Beards is dead. So Blackbeard is going to kill him most likely i can see Luffy all serious looking down on shanks putting the hat on him and going to BB without his crew. It will deffiantly be near the end of the series tho since 1 Luffy has to get alot stronger 2 most likley will have to have beaten the other 3 Yonko's 3 he will probably be on his way to shanks when he finds him near death and goes after BB.
Compared to someone like Luffy yeah. But Blackbeard is one of the yonko right now, so of course Shanks' haki is not that much greater. Shanks most likely beats him now, but when it's hinted at they are about to fight Blackbeard will be stronger by then.
Him getting a second devil fruit obviously has to do with being obsessed about getting the darkness fruit and on top of that his is atypical. You can't honestly believe all of his crew memebrs will just so happen to be like that and also have more than 1 devil fruit. It will take away the specialty of Blackbeard being the only person to have more than one devil fruit at a time.

So now blackbeard's haki is close to shank's? HE ONLY CARES ABOUT DEVIL FRUIT POWERS ,he is like enel, who thinks he is unstoppable with his devil fruit powers, yet he and his whole crew ran from akainu. It was said that in the 2 years he was conquering whitebeard territory and hunting devil fruits.
And i meant that the ability to use 2 devil fruits might have to do with the will of D, maybe his current DF,etc
You have no reason to think it's still a lot greater like it was pre timeskip. He had two more years to train and as a result of becoming stronger, he's one of the 4 strongest active pirate captains around.
And things you just mentioned non of Blackbeards crew members have....

If they fought, I'd root for Shanks. If Luffy won, then he would've become a stronger pirate than Shanks, but imo Shanks is supposed to be a role model for Luffy, and if he wins then he wouldn't have anyone to look up to, apart from maybe historical figures. If Luffy does win, I hope it'll be near the end of the manga (in the far, distant future) which would decide his fate as a pirate. That'd be a much better scenario.

if luffy and shanks meet there will be no punches throw just a conquers haki battle. like how white beard tested luffy and shaw it only made him mad.
