Why is anime frowned/ unacknowledged upon?

Anime in general huh? Admit it, they're weird. Most people who haven't watched them must at least got a peek or something and most of the time anime is weird

I think Clouds and a few other posters hit the nail on the head. In Western Culture we view cartoons largley as something for adolescense to view. The Anime that comes from Japan, though widley popular in the US, are normally mainstream stuff like Pokemon, Yugi-oh and even Naruto (at one point)

Japanese culture don't regard animation in such a way and view it as something for everybody. This is slowly being excepted here in the West as we see more and more adult themed animations like Family Guy and the Simpsons though these are consider to be more citcom based than actual animation.

There was Avatar the Last Airbender which blened eastern style art with western comdey and themes and that was widely excepted (don't count the movie that just sucked hard)

But overall we still view as something for the kids.

Both Anime & Manga are getting close too becoming a "norm" a "mainstream" from what I have heard seeing as how the popularity of such has risen so drastically.

Really? I mean I agree and disagree at the same time. Because I'm not the type that you would think that watches anime a lot, but I can surprise you lol at the same time I don't see other people, in my friend group, starting to watch it

I think anime is more enjoyable because it is easier to tell what is going on and is much more detailed.

I agree. I don't mind slight changes in the Anime VS Manga and it is so true it is far easier to understand the Anime over the Manga. In cases like Naruto or Bleach some of the panels showing special effects are really hard to make out what's going on, but when I watch the Anime it is clear as day.

I hate the Naruto Fillers as they completely suck. But I enjoy the Bleach Fillers they aren't all that bad. Especially the Zanpaktu fillers when we got to everyone's Zanpaktu personified.

Yeah lol but it's like the majority of people who like anime are the unpopular kids, to put it nicely, I don't fit this category because I was one the popular, more athletic type and I feel that if some celebrity were to say anime was good a lot more people wouldn't judge the unpopular kids for watching it. You know?

I agree. If you were to see me. You wouldn't know I was a big comic book/Manga/Anime Watcher/Reader. I think their are a lot of closeted Manga/Anime types out there. XD

I think it's because people hear people who do watch anime and they think it sounds weird, all the names and such. and then you know what those people usually think of when they do see anime, girls with huge eyes and rental space between them. And you know, some people are just close-minded. I know a lot of these kinds and they all know I watch anime, when they bring it up I tell them it's just normal cartoons but in japanese lolz.

Because the West confuses anime with childish cartoons when some anime have more gore and violence than an R rated movie. And they assume that the general anime fanbase is a bunch of nonathletic, losers, who dream about being japanese.

What they fail to realize is that its another abstract form of art that has a worldwide culture, applies to almost any genre, and is just awesome

I enjoy fillers although I know they aren't canon. It allows the off series characters to get some development even if they aren't canon.

agreed i really enjoyed some fillers especially the seven swordsman filler felt ameyuri ringo got trolled with that quick sand
