You can clearly see in A's case that the ama flame was already out in front of him while A was still not out of the way.
This proves Amaterasu had to appear in front of A first and then travelled in his direction (and when he moved out, it continued to travel and hit the samurai). No room for debate.
The reason its travel is not shown most of the time is simply because it is very fast. It happens between panels.
And anime is not canon.
