A lot of people are looking for the true villains if Naruto. They say that villains such as Pain or Obito aren't really villains, they just had sad backstories and were trying to improve the world in their own twisted way. The common opinion then is that Orochimaru or Madara must be the "real" villain, since they are actually "evil". Well, this is not really true. Madara and Orochimaru are in the same boat as Obito and Nagato.

Orochimaru:
Orochimaru's parents were killed when they were young. He was angry at Konoha for letting that happen. Furthermore, his parents death are what inspired him to seek immortality.

It is most probably his parents death, alongside his desire to influence the Shinobi world, that caused him to attack Konoha.

Madara:
As we all know, Madara was upset about the death of his Brother and that caused him great pain.

Like Obito,he has an idea for peace: he believes that there could be no peace except with the Infinite Tsukiyome.

In short, Orochimaru and Madara are no more "Real Villains" that Obito or Nagato. I hope that they don't change sides and regret their actions, but it is certainly possible for Naruto to do to them what he did to Obito or Nagato.

Oh yeah, forgot about him. He's really more of a side Villain but I guess you could say he was the main villain of the first season.
I think he could actually be considered true evil because he wasn't a ninja
People want to become ninjas for peace but something happens to them that twists their mind

I want some 'solid guys' with 'solid will', someone who can stick to his beliefs and don't give up easily(at least to a pathetic TNJ).
And Oro attacked village because he wanted to kill Hiruzen.
Madara and Oro have strong will unlike Obito.:yeah:

I think what make them true villains are good backstories and motives.

Everyone do what they are doing with reasons, no one says "lol I'm bad", it does not happen in our world and simply unrealistic regarding to human psychology unless someone is completely insane.

It certainly seems like that, but nobody would have guessed that the masked man would come to regret his actions either.

Some people are evil just for the lulz.

That's a debate between Plato and Aristotle. Plato believes that all evil people believe that their actions are good and are being unreasonable. Aristotle believes that Evil people know that what they are doing is wrong, they just have a strong desire to do so.

I believe in the latter, when people do evil things they know it's bad but there's usually a desire that fuels them.
