All this time Kakashi has been portrayed as a stoic mentor-type person that is convinced of his ideas, but this chapter shows us he has, in fact, been struggling with a "dark side" of the same nature as Obito's.

Kakashi said that it was Naruto who fully convinced him.

It means that even at the beginning of the series, Kakashi still had some darkness inside of him. In fact, he could have defected the village just like Sasuke.

I think this is a very surprising character development for him. At the same time I wonder how things would go if Kakashi really succumbed to his doubts and became like Obito.

Does anyone else think this situation is similar to Naruto's statement about himself and Sasuke that they could have easily switched places if things went only a little different?

Of course, he's not perfect.

He lost all those people, anyone would suffer from some sort of depression.

I'm not surprised at all honestly.

Yes, but I, and I think most people, thought that this loss caused him to think of himself lowly and that's it. I, for example, never imagined he was close to becoming a villain.

He never said he would have done what Obito would have done. So you cannot assume that.

All he said, was that he thought of the world as Hell. And most people who experience grave things usually think that way, it's not unusual.

Only difference is, Obito actually tried to do something about it.

Yea I think that Naruto and Sasuke's situation is more like Obito and Kakashi except they flip flopped so that Naruto didn't become evil and Sasuke did.

Like he said he cling to the hope that he might find by seeing through Obito's eye...
He wasn't totally lost like Obito but had a darkness inside him...

No, Obito clearly asked Kakashi why he didn't follow the same path as Obito did, meaning, why didn't he become like him.
And Kakashi clearly answered that he considered it a possibility.

Meaning he could potentially become just Obito.

Kakashi did lose a lot of significant people in his life, his two teammates, his teacher and mentor, and his father; its not a surprise that he did feel that way. Unlike Obito though he didn't get lost to these feelings and emotions, he kept his hope. They both thought of there world as a hell, but Obito tried to recreate it in his own/Madara's vision, Kakashi worked with what he was given and tried to change it by being a decent teacher to his pupils. He's by far not perfect at all but he wasn't close to being another Obito not in my opinion at least.

Where? The page is here:

The only thing here, is that Kakashi says that Obito's path was probably not mistaken, and is somewhat understandable. It does not say that Kakashi considered doing something like this in the past.

The page I'm talking about is the previous one:

Obito: Then why didn't you follow my path?
Kakashi: Indeed, the path you chose was another possibility.

At least to me, this looks like it was something Kakashi did think about.

Okay.

You lose your father, mentor, best friend and comrade. You're left all alone with a hyped guy called Guy.

You teach your mentors son, best friends ''cousin'' (whatever) and a girl who looks a bit like Rin. That brings hell a lot of memories.

You learn that your comrade is still alive and he murdered your mentor and his wife. Infact, he tried to murder you several times (Deva Path killed Kakashi).

What do you do? Psychologically understanding the situation, you would flip out. Literally.

Obviousely Kakashi has his own weeknesses but it is same for Kakashi - as Kakashi said about Naruto that Naruto will not fail as much as Obito.
