What did you want Jiraiya to do? He knew he was under Kakashi's care, and he was DESTINED to go on the journey, it was un-avoidable.

asuma is a Fodder he is not that important as a character like jiraiya

but Jiraiya is way more important to the story i mean he is Naruto + minato + Nagato teacher

also he is the reason why Naruto + minato have Frogs Summons + SM Mode

Personally , I like both but I pick Asuma U_U But even Jiraiya is epic too .

Both ninjas were pretty awesome, it sucks that Kishi didn't show more of Asuma and didn't even have them go all out. Asuma has win and fire jutsus but only used like 1 fire jutsus and if he did more than it wasn't anything memorable for me, he's the 3rd hokage son yet nothing that impressive with him. I mean show me something like him combining fire and wind element for a stronger element or something.

As for Jiraiya, he only went somewhat all out but not really, he was more trying to find out Pain's secret than anything and didn't really use any earth jutsus, frog kata and such. Jiraiya brought humor, action, and wisdom to the picture whenever he was there and anyone can respect that.

As for some peoples saying they don't like Jiraiya because Naruto was his god son and he wasn't there for Naruto for most of his childhood well guess what, Jiraiya was out keeping an eye on Orochimaru and ultimately finding out about Akatsuki and spying on both Orochimaru and Akatsuki. Minato was like a son to Jiraiya, he did blame himself for not being there to save Minato and Kushina so it also had to do with guilt. He did return to the village and been watching out for Naruto ever since and also spread word about the Akatsuki to other villages.

So he was suppose to drop what he is doing travel all the back to leaf to check on kid that's not his(when he has people looking out fro him)...Yeah you must be one those kids that dad says he's coming to get him and never shows up that why you have such a beef with J-man
