If you genuinely care for someone you can except them for who they are. Why not let them find happiness in what they like.

You should want them to be happy.

If you feel like you can't be with someone because they like stuffed animals or whatever, it's because you feel like you can't compare.
They can be happy.

We will just be separate.
I just find obsession really unsettling, but to each his own I guess.

It's selfishness.
Liking and being obsessed are completely different.

Yeah your right, I guess I just see it as perception.

Someone could easily say I'm obsessed with this site because I go on it everyday. Or people that check there phones constantly.

Would I break up with someone because of that? No. But like you said, to each his own.

I think if they are "socially awkward" then I would not date them, but if they can passively talk about their interests to me and still be able to maintain maturity and fun, then I would not mind what their interest is. Unless it is harmful or extreme.

I guess to me it depends on the object and the intensity. Of course using examples that are mild and culturally accepted are clear exceptions...

Edit: Thought about it a little, I guess it depends.

What would be a good example?

It's just perception, someone constantly on their phones is extreme to me.

Not being able to go anywhere without it, always checking every hour.

I see that as an extreme obsession.

Well seeing a phone has several different and varying utilities, I don't find it that strange. They could be doing things from texting a friend, to using a social network, playing games, using email applications, etc.
