Just a rough theory I have, that is complete speculation with no concrete proof in any form. However, due to the themes throughout Bleach, I feel this may have at least a small chance of occurring...but as I said, is nothing more than speculation that I would like to see other people's view points on.

Due to the renown his Bankai has, and the ease of accessing a Bleach Wiki, I will not link to anything specific, and will simply use verbal conjecture.

My simple theory is that Yama-ji is not dead, or will be able to "come back" at a later time because of his Bankai. Bleach has shown a trend of following various Buddhist references and teachings throughout it's story.

Yama-ji's Bankai was notable for each of it's powers being attributed to a cardinal direction: North,West, East, South.

These four directions can be linked to the Huang Long (Four Symbols), or four animal guardians of the directions.

However, in the Huang Long system, there is usually a fifth animal; the Kirin, for the CENTER.

Basically, my theory boils down to believing that there is a fifth power to Yama-ji's Bankai, referred to as Center, which will allow him to reconstitute himself from the flames of his own stolen Bankai...akin to a phoenix.

Thoughts on the possibilities, or opinions on it?

Sweet idea dude that would be awesome if that were to happen. Too add to your theory it is very plausible for the fact that his bankai keeps the bodies of the fallen warriors its slain and maybe their souls im not to sure on that. But if it can do that then there rrally isnt any doubt it could also have his own spirit in there. Also if he is to be reborn he would be young again when he was feared the most? Or his older self?

I'm not entirely sure myself. Bleach plays with Buddhist beliefs as a theme, which can make an interesting point when you bring about rebirth/reincarnation.

In one essence, this is sorta the concept of what a Shinigami is for a human (rebirth/reincarnation). With Ryujin Jakka's link to souls, the nature of Shinigami in generally...There's no real telling what would happen if this worked.

However, I feel like it'd be more of a reconstitution, rather than a reincarnation; I think it would rebuild his body in it's state upon ENTERING Bankai, and thus he's reform as his older-self...

...unless it DOES work like a phoenix, and reincarnates him much younger.

No he should just stay dead Yamamoto got a farewell chapter not to mention his death brings a big change towards how Soul Society works.

If he comes back to life it'll be a troll by Kubo.

With all due respect, this isn't about "Kubo being a troll", or anything like.

It's speculation on possibly unrevealed powers of a zanpakuto.

No but the whole saying farewell to Yamamoto would seem pointless and it would be a Byakuya 2.0 move fans just need to accept some of their favorite characters will die.

Keeping Yamamoto dead makes more sense than to bring him back for no reason his time is over it's time to see the Shinigami deal with the threat without him especially since he's going to be surpassed by Ichigo and Kenpachi...frankly how Yamamoto died was perfect for his character and Kubo really needs to keep some characters dead in order to progress the story like Gin dying.

The only time where going to see Yamamoto's powers again is when Juhabach uses them in a fight.

A better plot twist would be to have Masaki still alive...but I doubt that will happen now.

it is actually quite possible as the histiry has great knowledge of the phoenix as well which has a rebirth history of its own so really having a center axis for his swords bankai seems plausible but the way kubo writes would probly mean he wants it to be a last effort to help ichigo so it may only be something briefly but it could happen.
