He is pratically the guy that has most knowledge of the battle that is going on in the manga.

Obito is to madara what nagato was to obito, nothing more than a mean to an end. Obito has spotlight right now which is a good thing for Madara. In other words he is a distraction while madara is planning his next move. There is a good reason why Madara was invited to the battlefield with everyone else, because he is the villain after obito to be defeated. If he were fodder/unimportant kishimoto would have disposed of him when itachi ended edo tensei but that didn't happen. It's obvious why. And notice Hashirama vs Madara rematch isn't being focused much? Do you even know why? Because it's not about them two anymore, this fight is about Madara gaining more power and that's it. So if you thought Madara is not going to become more powerful, then I lol at you.
