Gaara's childhood was basically Naruto's childhood x5. Except Gaara didn't even have people to comfort him here and there like Naruto did. (Iruka, Hiruzen).

Gaara's father was murdered and he disregards that completely and proceeds to his missions giving 0 f*ck's and saves Lee.

Gaara by far had the worse childhood when comparing those two.

Think about it.

These shinobi started killing at the age of f**king six dude. Not 20 or 30. SIX! It is either kill or be killed. So of course they're psychologically f**ked mentally.

Also the pain from their experiences made them stronger. In real life you can use the pain (Oprah, Adele, Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford) to push you forward to riches or be f**ked in the ass for life and be forgotten.
