Fact that Itachi was leader of Akatsuki...

The fact that Itachi was leader of Akatsuki in Naruto:Road to Ninja makes it very plausible that he was, at the very least, 2nd strongest in the organization, with only Pain potentially being stronger. Remember, this movie was overseen by Kishi himself.

The leader in the movie is not Sasori or Kisame or even the greatly feared Pain, but Itachi. That fact speaks for itself. Surely people can't think otherwise...?

No, he's just the most well liked. Of course he'll reign the spotlight and such. He was simply a member, nothing higher. Nagato/Obito are the only people considered leaders in the Akatsuki.

When Itachi first joined he was 3rd, Nagato was 1st, and Orochimaru was 2nd. Itachi became stronger than Orochimaru so he became 2nd. Orochimaru left and Sasori became 3rd.

I agree although....as I've said before I believe if Kishi was to do the Akatsuki over again Itachi would be the leader. It's clear that Itachi is one of his favs. I believe Itachi is stronger than Nagato and pain. Nagato has no counter to genjutsu...... And pains shared vision makes that his greatest weakness to Itachi.
