Thank you. What you said makes sense. It all comes down to timing.
(Fūton: Mugen Sajin Daitoppa) - Wind Style: Infinte Sand Great Break Through
Rank: B
Type:Attack
Range:Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:20
Damage Points:40
Description: Originally Gaara's technique, for other characters the user will have to gather the dust or sand of the environment around him and then combine it with his elemental wind affinity. A large wind gust with dust or sand will get created capable to push away the opponent or medium sized objects.

Once again a dust/sand jutsu that is combined with wind. The wind is strong enough to push objects away from you. Even though it's labeled as attack, it works well as a defense.

(Fūton: Shinkūgyoku) – Wind Release: Vacuum Sphere
Rank: A
Type: Offensive
Range: Short- Mid
Chakra cost: 30
Damage points: 60
Description: After performing the necessary hand seals Rat → Rabbit → Dog, the user takes a deep breath and exhales several small blasts of wind chakra.in such a manner that they are dispersed over an expansive range, enough to make it difficult to avoid them entirely without taking any damage. Due to the properties of this technique, the expelled blasts are capable of piercing into and potentially through an opponent's flesh when they collide, in a similar manner to how bullets function.

This technique is good because you can aim and shoot, making it a wide technique. Also the "several" blasts gives you some room for adjusting to the situation. However, each blast is just a part of the original A rank technique, because they split evenly.

(Fūton: Fūjin no Jutsu) - Wind Release Dust Cloud Technique
Rank: A
Type: Offensive
Range: Short - Long
Chakra cost: 30
Damage points: 60
Description: After performing the Bird hand seal the user creates a stream of high velocity wind combined with scouring dust. The completed technique is directed through overlapping hands.

Do I even need to explain this one? 3rd time the same jutsu. The difference is that you release this one through your hands after performing the handseal.

I think this is a great defense technique. I like that it's mid range so you can use it to defend against kunai with paper bombs without getting caught in the blast. As the description says it can be used for an attack but I like it better for defense. To defend against it at mid range I would use a fire jutsu to absorb the oxygen out of the incoming wind. I could also use a wind technique of the same rank and size to cancel out the technique. At short range I would create a earth dome or equivalent technique to avoid getting dust or sand in my eyes.

A great technique to follow with a series of jutsu. I would infuse fire chakra into the bullets increasing their potency. A down side is the hand seals which gives the opponent more time to react. The weakness of this technique is that it's a blunt force blast and thus disperses on contact. Therefore I would use elemental jutsu, kunai, and other techniques to contact the bullets and make them disperse before getting into short range where they are harder to dodge. If in short range I would use use a A or S rank earth jutsu to create something sturdy the bullets could not pierce.

The main advantage of this technique is it's range. This range will allow the jutsu to be used for attack anywhere on the battle field. I personally like this technique and thinks it's great for offense. Once again I would infuse fire chakra to make it more potent. To defend against it I would use an equivalent wind jutsu at long range. At mid range I would either use a wind jutsu or large scale earth or water jutsu to cancel the jutsu. At short range I would try to evade the attack via a wind or earth jutsu, or I would use a jutsu to redirect the wind. An example of redirecting the wind would be to raise the earth below my opponent making them higher than me.

I really like this training method because as you said similar techniques are learned together. You also get to learn jutsu from a variety of ranks and ranges.

Great thinking. You really think of the details and outside of the box and I like that. Well done.

Now, I want to address this: use a fire jutsu to absorb the oxygen out of the incoming wind

Well, this is debatable. I'll try to explain it. So fire is strong against wind because wind fuels the fire with oxygen which is responsible for burning. However, you must take into account the directions of the technique as well as the ranks. I'll type up a few scenarios.

Fire C rank > < Wind B rank - The fire is one rank lower and in the opposing direction. Because of the elemental advantage these jutsus are equal in strength and they would disperse each other without any leftovers.
Fire B rank > < Wind B rank - The fire is now same rank as the wind but in opposing direction. Again, because of the elemental advantage the fire would overpower the wind and continue with half of its original power.
Fire A rank > < Wind B rank - Now, this is the situation where something that you described would happen. This time the fire is much stronger than the wind, by 2 ranks, and this allows the fire to obliterate the wind and "absorb the wind/However, because the wind is 1/4 in strength of the fire, first you account the opposing force which weakens the fire on initial contact and then you add the absorption which would result in addition of those 1/4, resulting in an A rank as it was. No real power up.

Fire > > Wind - These have the same direction and in this situation the fire will always "absorb" the wind and become more powerful since there's no opposing force from the wind. The power will depend on the strength of both techniques where, for example, B+B will equal an A rank combo.

Thank you. Through my limited experience training in the other elements I get the impression that wind techniques take the most thought to defend. This is because wind has a non-physical form and so much can be combined with it. You can't just get away with trying to OP wind.

I understood that explanation as it was very well written. Do fire based kekkai genkai have the same relationship with wind as far as rank and direction of collision are concerned? I would assume they would with the exception of Amaterasu which can burn anything.

It's because it's so easy to manipulate wind and as said it's one of the most versatile elements. There's a bunch of different techniques with different effects and each has its own way of defending against.

According to thread, not all variations are strong against wind.

Thank you. I will keep that stored away for reference.
Do so, it's very useful.

(Fūton: Shinkū Taigyoku) – Wind Release: Vacuum Great Sphere
Rank: S
Type: Attack
Range: Short – Mid
Chakra cost: 40

Description: After performing two hand seals Tiger → Dog the user launches a stronger version of the Wind Release: Vacuum Sphere technique, where the user instead chooses to compress the entirety of the previously inhaled breath into a single large, crushing sphere of wind chakra that they then proceed to expel from their mouth.

Danzo's signature technique. Key to this one is compression. Although not nearly compressed as a rasengan, this technique is powerful and serves its purpose very well.

Like it's counterpart (Wind Release: Vacuum Sphere) this is a good offensive jutsu. With just two hand seals you can release a large scale wind jutsu. Unlike it's counterpart this would be considered a large gust as opposed to a blunt force blast due to the scale. The technique has decent range and can easily be combined with fire for a deadly combination. To defend against it at mid range with the wind coming towards me I could use a A rank fire jutsu if I wanted to cancel out jutsu, or I could use an S-rank fire jutsu to overpower the wind. In the latter case the fire jutsu would continue towards the enemy with half it's strength. In short range I would use a earth/wind jutsu to create a sturdy object that the wind could not flow through. The issue with this is it would have to be an S-rank jutsu and the jutsu would only cancel out.

Tell me if my answers get too repetitive. Since the jutsu presented so far fall under the same type my ideas for defending against them are similar.

It's good. There's not much more to it, since everything is essentially covered in the method explanation because of the similarities of the techniques. There are still small details here and there and you seem to cover them very well. Now, that's it for this method. Do you have any questions regarding it, before we move on?

I don't have any questions. I believe I understand the strengths and weaknesses of the two types of wind techniques presented. I'm ready to move on.

Vortexes are rotating wind. This consists mainly of tornadoes and cyclones which are large in scale. Unlike gusts vortexes have a physical form that can't easily be stopped by using physical objects to obstruct the flow of wind. In a sense vortexes are like a large blunt blast. I think vortexes are the most destructive wind techniques due to their size and their power from rotation. The main advantage of a vortex is it's pure destructive power. I could see something really destructive being created if a vortex was combined with fire. Vortexes will also have a lot of suction power which makes them harder to avoid. I think the disadvantage to a vortex is in it's size. A vortex can't be intangible like other wind techniques and your opponent will definitely see it coming. If they can come up with a way to defend themselves or evade the attack they will have time to do so. I'm having some trouble coming up with disadvantages to be honest.

Very good. I have some more to add.

Method 3: Vortexes

Think of tornados or cyclones. In this method the factors of rotation come into the mix. This method focuses on generating powerful gusts or entities of wind through rotation. The rotation adds a couple of useful qualities to the techniques such as their ability to pull objects or opponents with superior suction force, fine tuning sharpness by having the technique form at a central point almost like a drill, or just simply raw destructive power that can uproot and shred. Whatever type jutsu, the key concept of focus and manipulation of wind to cause rotation. The rotation gives more momentum which generates more power.

Advantages of Method

As stated before, the addition of rotation generates more momentum, thereby generating more power. In situations where the rotation of the technique is centered around a specific point or center, the focus the rotation creates a sharper entity like a drill. Techniques of this magnitude generally possess the most power because instead of being wild and uncontrolled, there is a central theme, the wind is drawn in and rotates to some degree which gives more potency in any sort of wind technique whether it be a large gust, brute force, or cutting/shredding power.

Disadvantages of Method

The disadvantages are that these vortexes can be lit up easily. However, it's both an advantage and disadvantage. They can be deflected and directed with some techniques. They can also be cut and disrupted with techniques from the previous method. Strong earthen structures and high amounts of water could be enough to stop these, but depending on the size of the vortex they could also be sucked in because these are basically tornadoes.

I understand. What would happen if you caused a crack in the earth directly along a tornado's path? I would assume the tornado would dissipate since it no longer has ground to travel on. Also can a tornado be redirected with a stream? I would think that if a tornado hits water like in a stream it would be redirected along its path.

Interesting thought. I never thought about that but it makes sense, especially if the opponent can't control the tornado. Yes you can redirect it with walls, streams and even wind blasts. Here's also an interesting thought. If the opponents tornado is spinning clockwise and is coming toward you. To stop it, you blow a blast of wind aimed at one side of the tornado. It's basically a tangent on the radius of the circle. I hope you're following so far. Now, from which side would you blow it? Is it the side that the tornado is spinning to, or the opposite.

Opponent

o\ this or this /o

You

o is the tornado and /\ are the directions of your blast. Remember, the tornado is spinning clockwise.

In the case you described I would blow to my right. So, o\. Since the tornado is spinning clockwise if I blow to my left or /o then my wind is going to be added into the tornado since it will be pointing in the same direction as the tangent of that side of the tornado. By blowing on my right side my wind will point in the opposite direction of the tangent and thus provide resistance to the tornado. The tangent to the tornado on my left points towards the opponent where the tangent to the tornado on my right points towards me.

Excellent. As you can see this is a very important detail that nobody even bothers with but it can be very useful. There's a lot of details like these and they distinguish great RPers from the mediocre ones. What this essentially means is that you could take over an opponents tornado with a stronger one and direct the combination back at him. However, only if they're spinning in the same direction. Similar happens with fire and wind. There's little difference from setting a tornado ablaze and consuming it completely. :)

I see. Understanding the details of an opponent's move are crucial and being detailed in your moves is just as important.
