How the hell was Kakashi defending himself against Hidan with a kunai?

It seems bizarre at first, but it's not that unusual to see a kunai block a much larger weapon. We've seen that kunai are incredibly sturdy since the first few chapters of the series, and rarely shown broken in half except for the very tip of the blade.

I assume the user's skill also plays a part in a successful block. They are usually strong enough to lock the blocked weapon in place and preventing it from sliding towards a weaker section of the blade (e.g. the point where the blade base and the handle meet), thus lessening the chance of the kunai breaking.

In terms of reality, it's still very much possible to block a longsword with a tanto-sized knife however the chances of the block being successful are far lower than using a larger weapon. Again, it depends on the defender's skill, physical strength and the material of the weapon.

they are both blades and its pinpoint accuracy holding the kunai in front of your hands while your hands are pushing towards the larger sword.

Brah... The Kunais come from the strongest Clan , Senju.. You simply do not underrate a kunai.

An expert with a stone can kill a novice with a sword.
Kakashi possesses the sharingan, he can read movements too.

Well if you look at science a BIG Sword requires more force distributed where something small has all it's force focused at one point.

The thing is that even if you block it like Asuma, it's designed to get at least a small cut out of you. He must have been really skilled to have not gotten damaged from that... which kinda degrades weapons in my eyes unless they have a special ability :/

Kakashi=a boss. Who else splits a lighting bolt in half? Blocking with a Kunai=child's play.
