Exactly this. I feel like people take a character's word too seriously at times in the manga. Kakashi might have thought he was gonna make the Juubi vanish but from what we've seen with his usage of Kamui, I don't think he would have pulled it off, or he would have died trying to Kamui the entire head of the Juubi.
