I Disagree. Amaterasu was indeed awaken in a time of need but Susanoo was not. It was hinted pretty clearly Sasuke already knew how to use and it felt that was a good time to showcase it. I also disagree that upon first use Sasuke "magically masters" the technique. Sasuke awakened Amaterasu in his battle with Killer B and is only recently demonstrating a Mastery over the skill. Sasuke introduced Susanoo during the Kage Summit and we are still waiting for him to reach the level of Perfect Susanoo.

i used the word "magically" as a hyperbole. But he did master ama that fight(enton is a different tech thus a different story) even though he had no prior training.

Dude, Sasuke is like SSJ2 Gohan of DBZ, he has a lot of potential, but he only lets its out when he is pushed to a "corner".

Itachi knew this very well, that's why he made his push himself with hatred (even though that was wrong, and comes with a horrible price).

Also about amaterasu thing, Sasuke has seen it and even used it through Itachi's Mangekyou, so its not a surprise that he awakened it when the emotions struck him.

Susanoo was already foreshadowed by Sasuke by him statement "There is something that I want to try out", so that is not a surprise either.

SUMMARY
Sasuke probably have alot of unknown jutsu to show but he choose the best jutsu for the particular situation.EMS final form susano,Hawk summon,Kirin (From what the viewers senn) are perfect example that Sasuke donot use the certain jutsu all the time but they are needed.It will be boring if Sasuke use the same jutsu all the time like Naruto but surpising the viewers with random new jutsu that he learn in the past also keep us entertain
