PS: The Sannin are direct descendants of the sage himself (his 3 great-great grandchildren)...over time the word "Sennin" changed to "Sannin" and there we have it. I called it first!

The Sannin are also Sennin. They're two different words, it's just coincidence that they sound the same. Sannin is "three ninjas." Literally, it is a compound word 三忍 three+ninja. Sennin is a loanword from Chinese 仙人 (transcendent/immortal/ascended person. The first character is a person climbing a mountain, the second character is a person) that means hermit, immortal, sage, etc. If one world evolved into the other, they would stop using the older one, wouldn't they?
