If he was the first to unveil the secrets of Chakra and Ninjutsu, then he had to train. He had to dig quite a bit inorder to "unveil". Can't unveil something if you don't place attention/action towards it.

I doubt he achieved everything he did without training, that'd simply be impossible. However, he did most certainly have the greatest natural talent of everyone in the Manga, seeing as he was the second person to ever utilize Chakra.
Learning how to utilise chakra must have been pain in the arse.
I mean; we all born with organs and limbs but learning how they work; their A B C and using them efficiently is a completely different thing.

Hmmm...he was very much indeed born gifted. Although....he did work for the unveiling of the true power of chakra, and creating ninjutsu. He then went on to teach(teaching requires patience) his people the knowledge of chakra and ninjutsu. Then on top of that put his life on the line to stop the Juubi. He's a very hard working man indeed. He had to have trained.
