I'd give my vote to Yoshihiro Togashi. This man has to be the GOAT of the manga/anime author community. Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter. Need I say more? He should get back to writing, though, and take a break from Dragon Age: Origins, lol.

Berserk used to have two volumes per year, then in 2007 only one volume published each year until 2011 and now Miura rarely publishes new chapters

...Lol I like Asano Inio's work a lot (Solanin, Oyasumi Punpun, Subarashii Sekai), from the artwork to the storytelling (the topics are awesome!) it's quite the thing. Funny thing he doesn't even draw shonen...which is the highlight of my readings xd
On the shonen category, I'm hardcore fan of Hiroyuki Takei's work (Shaman King, Shaman King Flowers, Karakuridōji Ultimo), to the point of reading even his most early piece (Butsu Zone). He has gotten quite good working with inks...he's sorta my idol.
Another mangaka it's worth to mention (for me) is Q Hayashida (Dorohedoro). She has such distinctive style! And wow, Dorohedoro is full of evil plot twist and comedy O_O It's like the perfect action story (with gore!).

Togashi is awesome but he takes too many breaks and his drawings can be pretty bad sometimes.

I would say Kentaro but I heard that he stopped writing for a while because he's to busy playing some weird game called idol star or something. It's one of the ones where you have a girl in a bikini who is like your servant. I'm not kidding lol look it up.

I don't know too many but I would say Oda, he is always consistent and he seems in touch with his fans.

They are all amazing though.

Yeah, Togashi's drawing isn't that great, but it's the story I love! And I only watch anime (besides Bleach and Naruto), so the bad artwork is kinda nullified.

Osamu Tezuka is the G.O.A.T. It doesn't matter who you say, this man trumps everyone. He has created over 700 manga series in his lifetime. He was creating manga before it was popular outside of Japan. his most famous one is Astro Boy. Manga exists and is popular because of this guy here.


Oh and Oda, Urasawa, SIU(Although he is a manhwa artist), and Toriyama(just because he made my childhood awesome) as well.
