Chapter 6: Unranked mission
A new day was upon the Hidden Leaf Village, with it, a new generation was about to take its first step towards the future. At the Hokage’s office, Tsunade Senju, the Fifth Hokage, was waiting for Naruto Uzumaki.
Tsunade (thinking): I don’t know if this is safe or not, but I have to send him…
Shizune: Tsunade-sama, perhaps we should send the ANBU…
Tsunade: That’s the thing, Shizune… I don’t even know what’s happening so I can’t rank the mission… If I can’t rank it, how could I know if the ANBU are powerful enough to take care of this?
Shizune: What do you mean? Why wouldn’t the ANBU be powerful enough if things went wrong?
Tsunade: Shizune, think about it… Two nations are having trouble at the same region, south… So, the enemy can only be someone who thinks they’re capable of facing two of the Five Great Nations!
Shizune: I see… That’s why you’re sending Naruto-kun… Because you know he’s capable of handling them whoever they are and no matter how strong they are… Isn’t that right?
Tsunade: Yes, it is… When’s he getting here? I still have to tell him the details of this mission…
Shizune: So, will you have him do a recon mission or you’re sending him to deal with the threat right away?
Tsunade: Both, I want him to gather as much information as he can about what’s happening and I want him to neutralize it!
Shizune: Should we inform the alliance about this, Tsunade-sama?
Tsunade: Gaara already did! We’re waiting for a response now!
Tsunade: Where is Naruto?
Suddenly, a window opened and someone entered. It was Naruto.
Naruto: So, Granny… All I have to do is take care of things at the country’s south region, right?
Shizune: Naruto-kun?
Tsunade: You heard everything, didn’t you?
Naruto: Yes, I did! And you can count on me! Team 7 is going to clean this mess! Later!
Without giving Tsunade another chance to talk more deeply about his mission, Naruto left the office with tremendous hurry so he could meet his students who he asked to gather at the main gate fully packed for a trip!

Meanwhile at the gate, Akemi, Makoto and Isamu were waiting for their Sensei to arrive. They already had said goodbye to their families, including Naruto, and were ready to go.
Makoto: Our first mission together…
Akemi: I hope we get a mission where we have to face some Ninjas!
Isamu: I’m sorry… But you won’t get to face any…
Akemi: Uh? How do you know that?
Isamu: Because I’ll take care of all of them before you can even pull out a kunai…
Makoto: Heh…
Akemi: You’ll see about that! I’ll take out more bad guys than you, dattebane!
Isamu: It’s on! I don’t back away from any challenge!
Makoto: Guys… Come on…
Naruto: Yosh! Team 7, let’s go!
Without any of them noticing, Naruto had arrived at the gate and was ready to leave the village!
Naruto: So, let’s go! I’ll tell what the mission’s about on our way! Right now, all you need to know is that we’re heading south!
Isamu: Alright, let’s go then!

Meanwhile, back at the Hokage Office, the Fifth was worried about Naruto’s students…
Tsunade: I really hope things don’t get complicated to Naruto’s students!
Shizune: I’m sure he will take care of them… After all, one of them is his daughter!
Tsunade: Still… This is an unranked mission… It can go to a simple D-rank or all the way up to a troublesome SS-rank! If it turns out to be this difficult, Naruto’s students will have no option but to fight… They won’t want to be a burden to their Sensei… Specially his daughter! She's just like him, she'll fight no matter what...

???: I know they won’t! But they will slow them down! Now, I order you to stop questioning my decisions! I am this platoon’s leader!
???: Sorry, Kurai-sama!
Kurai: I will accept your apologies! If it was my father, he would have you killed right now for doubting his thinking!
???: I know, Kurai-sama! If you’ll excuse me, I’ll go through all the information we got, before I send it to your father, Zenaku-sama…
Kurai: Make sure you do so, Dorei…

At the Wind Country’s Hidden Sand Village, more precisely, at the Kazekage Mansion, Gaara of the Sand, the Fifth Kazekage, was concerned about the potential threat the Shinobi Alliance could be facing…
Gaara (thinking): After all these years, at peace… Why would a threat appear now?
Kankuro: Gaara, is something worrying you? Is it about those reports?
Gaara: Yes, Kankuro… I’m afraid that these reports could turn out to be something serious and someone being behind them…
Kankuro: You mean… an enemy?
Gaara: Yes…
Kankuro: I’m sure it won’t be anything that the Alliance can’t take care of! By the way, the responses from the Hidden Cloud, the Hidden Stone and the Hidden Mist didn’t arrive yet!
Gaara: I see… I presume the Hidden Leaf hasn’t gotten any response either…
Kankuro: I don’t know about that…
Gaara: I see… Did Temari already leave the village?
Kankuro: Yes, she, alongside four Jounin, left a few minutes ago! They should be getting to their destination in a few hours!
Gaara: Good… Keep the support team ready! If necessary, we’re sending them to back her up!
Kankuro: Worry not! It’s Temari after all… Plus, she’s with him…
Gaara: Yeah… The smartest man I’ve ever known…

Meanwhile, Team 7 was still heading south, walking down a road surrounded by woods from both sides which would lead them to their destination, the southern region of the Fire Country; located near the border of the Land of Rivers and nearby the ocean...
Makoto: Sensei, what happens if the mission gets too dangerous?
Akemi (thinking): Makoto… Come to think of it… That never crossed my mind… Should we run away if that happens?
Isamu (thinking): I can see it in his face… He’s scared… But, Akemi… and me as well… We all are scared…
Naruto: Don’t worry about that! No matter how dangerous, how troublesome this mission turns out to be, I won’t let my comrades die!
Looking at the Naruto’s big smile, the young trio started to feel more confident and safe. Their sensei’s words had reached out to their hearts.
Naruto: As long as I’m here, nothing will happen to you guys! And if something happens to me…
Makoto: Uh?
Naruto: Just remember this… Teamwork is the key! Stick together and it won’t matter how strong and tough the wall in front of you is! If you are together, that wall will come down!
Isamu: Alright, Naruto-sensei! We won’t back down, we’ll hit that wall as hard as we can!
Akemi: We’ll follow our path straight and true!
Makoto (thinking): It always feels great being with them… I guess… I love my friends… Heh… Nothing can happen to them… I can’t let that happen!
Makoto (thinking): I won’t leave their side! I’ll fight alongside them; I’ll guard their back as they will guard mine! Teamwork… That’s the key...
Isamu: What about you, Makoto? Are you with us? Heh heh…
Looking at his best friend’s smile, Makoto couldn’t help but to feel so happy and wasted no time stating what was on his heart!
Makoto: Of course! I won’t leave your side! We’ll fight as one! Right?
Akemi: Damn right, dattebane!
Naruto (in thoughts): Heh…
Kurama: Seems like everything you say reaches them… Hehehe…
Naruto (in thoughts): Yeah… I’m proud of them…
Kurama: Hmm…
Naruto (in thoughts): What is it, Kurama?
Kurama: I wonder if it will be like the old days and some sort of love triangle will come up…
Naruto (in thoughts): What the hell? You’re always calling me a moron but I think you’re a bigger moron than me… Who would bring that up?
Kurama: Heh… I bet the girl likes the boy with the sword on his back…
Naruto (in thoughts): Oi oi, my daughter is light-years away from having a boyfriend… Shut your pie hole, damn it!
Kurama: Yeah right… Pfft… Moron…
Akemi: Dad, are we there yet?
Isamu: Yeah… We’ve been walking for hours…
Naruto: We should be half way there by now!
Makoto: Half?!
Meanwhile, hiding in the trees…
??? (whispering): There are four of them…
??? (whispering): Three are just some little brats… The easier it is…
??? (whispering): Yuurei, we’ll throw them into darkness!
Yuurei (whispering): Alright, Bakemono!
Bakemono (whispering): Then, we attack like ghosts! Let’s go!
Naruto and his team had no idea they were being watched and soon, ambushed by two unknown and mysterious enemies…
Makoto: How about a break, sensei?
Akemi: Oh, come on, Makoto! Let’s keep walking until we get there! No breaks…
Naruto: We could make a break, though… I’m hungry…
Akemi: Dad… Come on…
Akemi (thinking): Come to think of it… I’m hungry as well…
Isamu: So… Break or no break?
Bakemono (thinking): Dark Style: Black Mist Technique
A weird dark mist started to come out of the man whose partner called Bakemono… The black mist started to form a cloud which engulfed Team 7 in no time. Inside, Naruto and his team had no idea what was happening.
Akemi: Are we being attacked?
Isamu: No break then, uh… Damn…
Naruto (shouting): Stick close to each other! I’m going to use my sensing skills to figure out the enemy’s position!
Yuurei (thinking): Damn, he’s a Sensor Type… We have to take him out before he starts kneading chakra!
Yuurei: Dark Style: Dark Chains
Coming from Naruto’s right, black chains were heading towards him. Its point of origin couldn’t be seen because of the thick, black colored mist engulfing Team 7, but from the outside of the mist, it was possible to see the chains coming from Yuurei’s hand palms.
Yuurei (thinking): These will bind him and his chakra… Kurai-sama taught me this Jutsu before we left… It’s powerful enough to keep anyone from mustering any chakra!
Naruto: Gotcha!
Bakemono (thinking): Now… Taking care of the small fry…
Bakemono suddenly appeared at Akemi’s back, with a small sword on his right hand, ready to attack Akemi.
Naruto: At Akemi’s back, hurry! The other one is mine!
As he said this, Naruto caught the chains coming at him with his bare hands and pulled them with all his strength. Meanwhile…
Akemi: Wind Style: Air Current
Using her wind technique, Akemi pushed back the dark mist by creating an air current around her team. At the same time, Isamu blocked Bakemono’s sword with his own while Makoto jumped from above and threw several kunai at the man wearing a black robe.
Isamu: You won’t harm my teammate, bastard!
Bakemono (thinking): This kid… How did he block my attack so fast?!
Makoto: You’re mine!
In order to avoid Makoto’s kunai, Bakemono jumped back a few meters.
Bakemono: Nice move, brats, but you’re still done for…
Suddenly, a blast occurred right behind the three genin… A smoke cloud was formed due to the blast. When it cleared, another man wearing a black robe was revealed to be lying on the ground…
Bakemono: Yuurei?! Where is…
Naruto: Right here…
Naruto was standing behind Bakemono, with a serious look on his face…
Bakemono: Who… Who are you?
Naruto: My name is Naruto Uzumaki!
Bakemono (thinking): Uzumaki?!
Trying to stab Naruto with his sword, Bakemono turned around… However, before he could do anything, Naruto punched him with his right hand so hard he was sent flying into the middle of the woods…
Makoto (thinking): Sensei’s so strong!!!
Naruto: Two down…
The mission’s rank rises…
