The Juubi is said to have been sealed in the sage of six paths which allowed the latter to become god-like.Many of you on the base still doubts whether or not rikudo got his rinnegan through the Juubi. That is one of the main reasons I have made this theory which will also explain the origin of rinnegan, sharingan and byakugan.
The Rinnegan

Firstly, I strongly believe that the sage's rinnegan was not hereditary:I mean that he didn't get it through his ancestors but rather through the Juubi. Why is the sage rinnegan so close to Juubi's eye in appearance? Why is gedo mazo linked to rinnegan?(Rinnegan controls empty vessel of Juubi) The answer is quite simple; rinnegan is juubi's eye without the tomoes.
Rikudo was called "sage" because his main power resided in sage techniques; he didn't have rinnegan before Juubi was sealed into him. Whatever, rinnegan also have godly powers; it gives the user the ability of six paths of pain and the power to control life and death.

As konan stated, rinnegan gives such abilities.
The only reasonable source of this eye is the Juubi which was said to have created the world and to be an one-eyed god. Besides, there are no known rinnegan users in rikudo's era other than the jinchuriki of the ten tails, the sage of six paths.
Many people underestimate the Juubi's mind. The truth is that it has the most powerful conscience since he is said to be the progenitor of the world. With its universal mind, it created the world. The sage feared the Juubi's great potence and sealed it away in the moon. He knew that he could not seal it in his sons because Juubi will definitely control them-its mind might take control. Don't worry, I have words to back up my statements.
The sage could subjugate the juubi's mind and influence. He didn't get corrupted by it unlike his descendants. The sage's elder son who got an eye similar to rinnegan from his father was consumed by hatred because of his younger brother. This led to the entire uchiha clan to be corrupted by the Juubi as its power was still flowing in them;whether tiny or small because they are direct descendants of the sage. The senjus, who didn't inherit juubi's eye, were not corrupted by the ten tails.

The elder son's eye became the byakugan after many generations which resulted in the eye power being considerably weakened. The byakugan is even known to have lesser powers as compared to sharingan. As a result, the uchiha clan members(byakugan users) were weaker and faced more casualties when attacked by enemy clans. This caused the clan to be consumed by intense hatred. Juubi's power resurfaced and a new eye was formed. That eye was the sharingan. The other members who were not corrupted by the juubi formed the Hyuuga clan with their byakugan eyes.
Later, as juubi's influence became greater, the sharingan turned into the mangekyou sharingan, a more powerful version of sharingan. The greater is juubi's corruption, the more powers are gained.
Juubi doesn't lack a mind;instead, it has a sharp and shrewd one. Its mind is universal as he was the progenitor of the world. With this mind, even if it was sealed away in the moon, it could still cause the occurence of a series of events which will give it back its ancient power. As you all know, the juubi is about to reach its final form. He is the one who is controlling Madara and Obito without them becoming aware of it. Both of them thinks that they are the ones controlling the Juubi but apparently, this is not the case. The juubi is somewhat using them to get to the perfect form; that's what the sage of six paths failed to predict-he failed to anticipate the juubi's corruption in his descendants.
In reality, a proverb says that you can't defeat one with his own hand-no one can control juubi with its own powers. The juubi is allowing Madara and obito to control him with the eye that was given to rikudo by itself. Madara and Obito are using the rinnegan , the juubi's eye to control the ten tails which is contradictory. Juubi is manipulating them somewhat to clear obstacles. Since Madara and Obito relies to their uchiha powers, it is likely that they can be controlled.
OT:Juubi will not allow infine tsukuyomi. That's why juubito is killing everyone but not accomplishing his goal. He could have casted the genjutsu with his eyes on the moon but he isn't doing it. Something is holding him.
The juubi's eye is red rinnegan with black tomoes. It's eye symbolises evil intent,corruption, darkness and destruction. It may be a creator of the world but it is malevolent-the sage had to seal him for this very reason.
The sharingan is the juubi's eye with the circles separated and only 3 tomoes. The eye is known to be specialised at mind control and genjutsu which lead to the fact that the Juubi, the source of this power, is an intelligent and cunning being.
Even if juubi is a progenitor, it corrupts and destroys whenever it needs to do so.
If juubi is the source of all ultimate doujutsus, it must be wise and have a universal mind-how will he create the world if he didn't have these?
