Meaning what exactly? I wont deny he can sense the build up but that does not guarantee him 100% immunity against tysukuyomi. Close range is also not needed in this case as I have manga scans and Db scans that prove the visual sharigan genjutsu can be used at long range as well. But you have a point though regarding the build up.

You're forgetting Nagato can sense the build up of chakra and was able to sense Itachi's Amaterasu before he used it. Once Nagato initiates Chibaku Tensei it's game.

They're in two different leagues. One's a demi-god, the other is elite. Tactically I'd give it to Itachi, but he doesn't survive an onslaught from Nagato.

Your forgetting he clearly states he needs concentration for CT as he stated against Konan. I won't deny he wouldnt be capable of sensing amaterasu but if he were to do something about while prepping CT their is a possible scenario.

counters for katoon- suiton, rinnegan makes him a master of all 5 elements which he does (same with suiton)

The animals getting him out of it won't save nagato from the after effect of tysuykomi. Utilizing doesn't really play a factor here, what ends this is Itachi MS techs. I won't deny amaterasu can be countered, as it is manga proof.

Sorry but attacks from asura path isnt even getting pass a v2 sussano. Preta path means coming within a close range which means vulnerability to the totsuka blade. Are you referring to nagato using the 6pop? If thats the case than this will be easier then. Naraka and human path get shitted on my mere katons and body clone explosions. I already explained how CT has it's weak points.

Itachis susanoo durability is calc'd at town level+ at best. Not to mention he doesn't have the chakra reserves or stamina to maintain it for sufficient amount of times..

but itachi tried it on bee though and the 8 tails got him right out of it. and i believe sasuke also did the same thing with bee, if hes got the animals summoned they can funnel their chakra into nagato like if he were on the invisible chameleon, plus he can go very ham and summon the bird and the multiple dogs and other summons, the thing is even with itachi healthy, his eyes will still be damaged from using MS techs plus he will probably use it very early and the battle know how powerful nagato is, he will outlast him, knowing how bad itachis stamina is (2.5) it can wear him out
