So, i was thinking of leaening some self defence martial arts and i am leaning between Kung fu and Muay thai!Which one do you think based on your experiences is more efficient for Street fighting?!You can also recommend me other art(...and if you do,include its fighting style, pros and cons,e.t.c)

Funny you ask this because I was wondering myself the samething 2 weeks ago.

I've been lifting for 2 years now and I really wanted to start combining it with martial arts. I didn't know which one to choose but I ended up doing Muay Thai class with my friend who is also my partner in the gym. Went to 4 class so far and it's amazing, really great for beginners since you already learn how to use your whole body as an arsenal (the human weapon)

I'd go with Muay Thai.

P.S I'm 16 years old

I started Wing Chun not too long ago. It seems.. applicable to a real life need to defend yourself.

I picked it because it is essentially a form of simultaneous offense and defense. If I were you, I would go to youtube and look up videos of people doing different forms of martial arts, and pick based on what I seen there.

Oh, and Ip Man was Bruce Lee's master by the way.

MMA is not my type really...
I dont know IP man but yea Wing Chun is one of my choices!
Can you specify Jeet kun do fighting style?
Jeet kun do isn't a style, its a philosophy.

It means to use whatever styles, moves, and techniques from different Arts. So you can become a better fighter or healthier.

IMO don't use one style, use many.

Cool!I am 18...seems i have to catch up to you then:p
So,is it good for self defence?I mean, how you disarm a man with a knife? Are there certain grips you learn or you like go all in like boxing with the neck gripping after?

I see..the thing is that learning certain arts cost a lot of money and i am not. able to afford more than 1 atm

I've only been to 4 class so far but I don't think it's the type of martial art where you learn how to disarm someone with a weapon. It's more like a striking art and we don't learn any grappling techniques I think. I'd advice to do some Muay Thai and learn a lot of the basics and nothing stops you from combining it or doing another type of martial art once your contract finish that focus more on self defences.

I really don't have a lot of knowledge of the different martial arts nor what you should do but like I said, Muay Thai focus a lot more on the stricking with every part of your body.

Well it all depends on what you are looking to achieve.

When it comes down to it you have to decide between the aggressive combat oriented martial arts and the ones who focus on violence being only the last option.

1. Many of the "newer" martial arts were developed by/for use in military and combat sports. They usually combine techniques from other martial arts, to make it's user superior in face of their enemy.
Examples are: Muay Thai/Boran, Krav Maga, Sambo

2. In most of the "older" martial arts, inflicting physical violence was not the focus. They were seen as a way of achieving mental and physical purity, and tried to show you a way of living in perfect harmony with yourself and your environment.
Examples are: Karate, Judo, Jujutsu, Akido

In the end it comes down to what you want to do ad how much time you want to invest. Any kind of combat sport will give you a boost in physical strength and confidence.

You also have to realize that there is no such thing as a "perfect" martial art. I have been doing Teakwondo for 5 years and i think it's awesome. But i decided about a year ago to take some boxing lessons as well.

Whatever you decide, try to find a school/training facility with a good reputation!! Because believe me there are many shitty ones out there! They should offer a free lesson for you to check it out and that should help you to figure out if it is what you have imagined.

Wow,this is a good answer!I guess i am into more of the agressive type!I think i agrression is the feeling i need to experience most and learn to manipulate it!It will be hard to find a good school but i guess the free lesson idea would be a good choice to start so i can take a peek of how good is the. teaching methods!Just one question, how will i know who is good and who isnt?
