This is quite frankly the best analysis and explanation I have ever friggin read in my entire life!
Original creator of this post is SharkBomb4 from NF. All of the credits go to him.
This post will address all of your issues with Obito Uchiha. I guarantee it!
Now I know this topic isn't something anyone should be taking seriously lol since it's pretty much "why do you like a character I don't like!!!???" but I'm going to attempt to give it a serious answer. This should be fun (and very, very, very long).
Firstly I'm going to go over some of the most prevalent misconceptions of Obito. I know they don't answer my question as to why I like his character directly, but it will help an understanding my overall feelings on him as a whole. Okay, first up:
"He's just mad over getting friendzoned"
"He's a god damned pedophile"
"He wants to destroy the world!"
Not exactly. He thinks he's creating a world to replace one that's clearly broken, so he' wants to save it even though he's doing it in the worst way imaginable.
He's always blaming other people for what happens! Why can't he take responsibility!
I think this here is actually the root of the misunderstanding. Obito doesn't blame Kakashi for what happened to Rin. He doesn't blame Rin for killing herself. He doesn't blame Minato for failing to show up on time. And before you freak out and look up pages of chapters I've already read, please let me finish.
The main problem with the world according to Obito is that no matter what you do, no matter how much you struggle, the world will force you to become "trash".
First, Obito had to sacrifice himself to save Kakashi because of a mission which is something many of us don't realize how badly that effected him.
Judging from his words and reactions here, it's clear that he wishes he was never in a position where he had to get horribly disfigured. I think people are underestimating the effect this had on him.
Second, Rin had to kill herself to save the village, pretty much forcing Kakashi to break his promise. Further proving Obito's point, this world forces you into becoming trash even if you really don't want to be.
Third, Minato is supposed to be the fastest man in the world and even he couldn't save anyone. He couldn't save Obito, he couldn't save Rin, and ultimately, he couldn't save himself or his wife. Even though that last part is Obito's doing, he views himself as the kind of trash produced by this world. Which is why multiple times over the course of his fight with Naruto, he states that even if they do somehow win, the world will keep producing trash and monsters just like him so there's really no point in fighting his dream world. This is just how far gone he is.
"He's only doing this because Rin died! All he ever does is talk about Rin!"
Already kinda covered this before, but Obito's motive is more than just Rin. And he doesn't only think or talk about her. In fact, his flash backs include Minato and Kakashi just as much as Rin and are about them as a whole because they were his entire life back then. It's true that he loved Rin, but that doesn't mean he only ever cared about her.
His motivation is fairly simple and it's been stated many times:
Because of the events of his life, he thinks the world will only ever create trash. The trash that break their promises, the trash that kill themselves over a mission, the trash that can't save anyone no matter how fast they are, and yes, even the trash that kills, steals, tortures and destroys like he himself acknowledges that he's become. And when you look at the evidence in Obito's life, it's easy to see how he came to that conclusion.
Madara lectured him on it and told him flat out that Obito would return to him as if it was inevitability. Then the exact same thing happened with Nagato where Obito told him that he would crawl back to him one day and that happened over a tragedy where Nagato had to kill Yahiko. And then there's Kisame who is forced by his own village to kill his own teammates, and Itachi who was ordered to exterminate the Uchiha clan over the actions of an individual Obito calls a "piece of trash" (hint: he's talking about himself).
All this world ever creates is trash and the only way to end such a cycle is with Madara's plan where no one can ever amount to garbage. This is why he scoffs at Naruto's words. He's been where he is, he knows Naruto doesn't understand what it's like to watch everything you ever cared about and all of your ideals stomped on in a cycle that forces you to do awful things. To become exactly the kind of failure you once said you'd crush. To completely and absolutely fail in the worst possible way.
Now that that's out of the way, onto what I enjoy about Obito's character.
He's a villain with a sense of humour
In a nice contrast to Pain and many other ultra serious bad asses, Obito isn't above mocking or even cracking a joke every now and then.
That is some morbid shit right there. "You wanna vote about the fate of the world? Fine, we'll do it when I kill every last one of you".
Amazing Neji slam right there.
Pretty much everything he said to Konan during his fight with her was awesome. All these amazing digs on the traitor and her dead friend were hilarious.
So in general, he's a pretty serious dude, but he's definitely not above mockery and ridiculing.
He's an evil, evil bastard.
Ya, Obito has had it pretty rough in life becoming horribly disfigured in the process and all, but how he chooses to reconcile all of this makes him horribly evil and definitely more hateworthy than other villains.
You can say that he's twisted and just wants to save the world in his own way, but how he goes about doing it is just pure evil. He wants to force the entire world into his dream world because he think it's trash, but he does this KNOWING how vehemently against it pretty much everyone but him, Kisame and Madara were. That is beyond selfish and self righteous, and it's almost sickening how aware of it he is. He knows that Rin would never be OK with it, he's fighting an entire world that's against it, and he's willing to do horrible things to achieve it anyways.
He's attacked his own village, murdered his mentor's wife, caused the Uchiha genocide and participated in it, ran the Hidden Mist, started a terrorist organization, connived and backstabbed his way through his life and played the main characters against each other.
And this all leads back to his original words from his famous speech twisted in the most perverse way possible. "If that's not what it means to be a true shinobi, then I will crush that ideal!". The more you think about it the funnier it is. He promised he'd crush the shinobi ideal if it wasn't in line with his owns and that's exactly what he's dedicated his life to doing, only with a cruel Twilight Zone-ish twist.
And what's funny about all of this is that he does all this while being a complete **** about it. He doesn't give his opponents any real respect about who they are. I would almost call him sadistic. He stomps all over Konan's ideals and makes that the last thing she hears, he shits all over Minato when they meet after all these years, and he pretty much degrades everyone he ends up fighting. Part of his strategy is to actually break his opponents down piece by piece physically and mentally in order to win his fights. For the longest time, it was even working on Kakashi and we see him attempt this on Minato as well. The man is pretty much a relentless ass hole.
He's a smooth mother ****er
Before recently, Obito was never all that strong. Especially for someone considered to be the big bad. Sure, his powers are broken against those with no knowledge or are slow, but against someone with good reactions and intelligence, they can get around it. Most of what he has comes from his intelligence. He's a master of manipulation and is just as powerful a user of TnJ as Naruto himself. He controlled Akatsuki from the shadows by using Nagato, he TnJ'd Kisame, he almost got Naruto and he even tried to do that shit on Kakashi. He plays people against each other and for a large period of time, he even had Sasuke on his side.
He's got some cool powers and some sweet designs
Hey, I already know that we weren't supposed to be mentioning this but man, Kamui is awesome and all of Obito's designs have been great IMO.
Constantly doing the impossible
This guy has some iron will power. He has negated all TNJ and murder attempts so far. He's almost like the protagonist in the way.
Cool to have a dark reflection of the main character
Obito will to me, be one of the most memorable fallen heroes out there. He's the alternate, the hero that failed and that makes for a rather interesting villain imo.
To conclude, I'm aware that this character gets a lot of hate on these forums. People have various reasons for hating him and at the core of that, he's what many people here didn't want as the villain. A lot of you guys were expecting/wanting the true monster with no emotional baggage whatsoever. And I get that, and it's OK to hate a character because of that, but please, can you not be a jerk about it? By this I mean, don't try and posture your opinion as the end all be all and act like those who disagree with you are somehow lesser. This has been going on these boards in regards to this character for way to long and frankly it's just not cool. No one is judging you for liking your characters so maybe it'd be for the best if you don't judge someone's tastes harshly and relate it to their overall character. And please try not to interrogate people who disagree with you with topics like this ok?
Peace.
