Looks: Luffy is renowned for his trademark straw hat (from which he gets his nickname "Straw Hat Luffy"). Luffy also has a scar with two stitches underneath his left eye (which he earned by stabbing a knife under his eye to show Shanks that he was tough) and short black hair. He was severely wounded by a shinobi, leaving a large X-shaped scar on his chest. He also has no knowledge of medicine. If Luffy finds something he does not understand, even if someone explains in detail, he calls it a "mystery thing"; like calling dance powder a "mystery powder". He is most often seen smiling, except in a fight where he is forced to use all his power (and sometimes even then). Luffy also seems to rarely change personality wise. Because he views the world in a straightforward and simple manner, he is occasionally the only person who can see past events that have taken place and realize the true goal, yet at other times he can fall into the simplest of traps. Luffy's simple attitude and naïve comments during fights are often mistaken by his opponents as poking fun at them. Due to this, many of his opponents lose their cool and charge at him in anger. While he is goofy and reckless, he gets quite serious when anyone is in serious danger. He is, however, a genius when it
comes to fighting. In battle, Luffy has shown signs of intelligence, high tactical and innovative skills. Luffy's personality is like that of a child's, in the sense that he tends to go to the extremes. He can either be extremely greedy, especially in cases of food.

Personality: Luffy's two dominant traits are his apparent lack of intelligence and his utter fearlessness. Luffy can easily be amazed by the simplest things, such as hermit crabs, and can be confused by concepts such as that by digging a hole right next to another he may be unintentionally filling the other hole. Luffy has also shown to be very protective over his comrades. This cause him to become very angry when they are in trouble or taken advantage of.

Background Info
History:
Luffy was born 19 years ago into the Akimichi clan in Konohagakure. His parents where one of the poorest of the clan. Growing up Luffy had one Dream and that was to be Kage. He knew he had to train hard to achieve this dream. At the age of 5 Luffy entered the Konohagakure Ninja academy and started on his path to being one of the greatest ninjas to ever live. Luffy despite being a member of the Akimichi clan felt he never fit in due to being super skinny. Which made him want his dream to come true even more.
Luffy lacked the intelligence of most his classmates but made up for it with his pure Strenght. After 2 years of the academy Luffy graduated. He spent many years serving the leaf. Until one day he got into a arguement about saving a fallen comarde during s mission. His higher up scolded him and he departed to find a new home after his parents where killed. He moved to Sunagakure changing his name to Monkey D. Luffy. Since he joined Sunagakure Luffy has been paired with one of Shonobi named Himura Kenshin.
