Thats because of the way of presentation ..... Once Telephones and Trains were considered to be abomination, supernatural and harmful things (hyperbole ...... but some people did consider that phones wld transmit disease and trains wld destroy crop and make cows stop giving milk etc) .... and how the idiocy was cured? By making it available to the public and once they began to relate to these object through their own experience, the misconceptions cleared ...... But sadly the alternate 'facts' are presented is a horrible way, they a paraded to be unimaginable and supernatural, so why should people believe that is not natural at all? (The Hoaxes dont help either) Not to mention statrting off saying "I have heard/read ..." or "I never could but my 'friend' ....." sound fishy and detached ..... If u want to convince people, u need to get up and personal .....
Over that people have a natural resistance to newer ideas which is coupled with their curiosity cos in the end a mind wich is closed box is as dangerous as mind which is like the genitalia of a prostitute where anyone can put anything .... Let me give u an example: Durring the early Uranium/Radium boom, there was a widely spread misconception that it was a wonder drug and became an ingredient in bath salt, salves, and therapeutic muds ... and was touted as able to cure cancer (If they only knew) ..... some people bought that and some didnt and u can guess the result.
