Whether the Sage was fully an Uzumaki or not is still left to be determined. I am under the belief that he was, but that is only an opinion. But to accept the "Senju+Uchiha=Sage and the Uzumaki were just descendants of the Senju" paradigm is just absurd.

The Uzumaki symbols and influences have been sprinkled throughout the series very carefully and as a reader we can choose to see them or ignore them. The Uzumaki are not just a tangent family of the Senju. I'm not gonna list all the reason why I believe this because there are numerous theories out there that are very well constructed and really can't be debated with anything but, "Tobi said so in that chapter."
