I think you are misinterpreting Naruto's battle prowess with his intellect. Naruto is of average to below average intelligence. When it comes to his ingenuity during a fight, Naruto excels. Well that is not entirely accurate. Both Sasuke and Naruto are very ingenious in a fight. But in the way of intelligence Sasuke is smarter, he is just too cocky and underestimates his opponents which is his biggest weakness.

Naruto is a lot like Hashirama. A good-spirited guy that is sometimes a bit naive. That is Naruto's weakness.

I like Naruto much more than I like Sasuke though.

Naruto is a little boy. He is only 16. And Sasuke gives in to his anger just like a little boy. He too is also 16. They are kids and kids make mistakes. lot's of them. That's how they learn and become stronger.
