treyvon martin was badly beating zimmerman, which gave further appeal to zimmerman's case. In fact, it was treyvon martin who was on top of zimmerman pummeling him. the autopsy shows zimmerman's head lacerated and wounded, his nose broken. it made it look like zimmerman was defending himself by pulling out the gun
