agreed, allot of people start flaming when it comes to religion, but this is exactly my point.
Religion has such a "untouchable" status, that it becomes allmost impossible to discuz it.
this is not a good thing if you ask me.
we as humans should always try to get together on whatever the matter is, but as soon as it comes to religion, it gets cut off pretty quickly cuz people are scared that their believes would get compromised.
This imo, is a major flaw in religion, cuz it prevents different people comming to an agreement, with results such as violence, war etc.

this is why i think religion is holding humans as a specie back, instead of trying to move forward.
Well... it's again a very limited perspective here, but yes, your argument is along the lines of our current situation.

This is where my religion kicks in. As Extratellarian zo?tropist, we have our own theories and ways of explaining on that which are, unlike most highly defined scientific material and religious literature, very logical to the 'less' capable people.

The universe is, as we know, bigger than we can imagine for quite a while. We all know the fact that everything is dynamic, regardless in what time span we're talking about. Everything transforms constantly, people are born, people die, when buried they are converted into food for the worms and such, which on their turn die as well and convert in other things. Inside this confined space there are countless of different conditions which, due to the fact that everything is dynamic, relocate, gain a different form, become part of other compilations, etc. It's very likely that, due to the size of the universe and the fact that the combination of conditions change infinitely, few or more locations would meet the exact conditions for life to evolve. In fact, every time we find out the universe is bigger than we expected, the chance that there's other life on other planets grows as well. So yes, the big bang was possible and any condition that allows us to live and the fact that we are alive are very much possible as well. We're here, aren't we?
I agree with your points on life etc, but what is a Extratellarian zo?tropist exactly? i tried googling it, but al i got was a link to NB :D
corect me if i'm wrong but to me your points just sound like Atheism.

Science is merely a way to measure. Anything that science proves is pretty much the most solid factual proof we have (not saying that is is solid, because due to our limited capabilities we won't be able to distinct facts from anything else for a long time to come). So what you do with it is entirely your decision. I, for example, don't smoke because of the reasons you addressed.

Atheism is merely thinking that there is no god, I'd have to call extratellarian zo?tropism a sub-religion of Atheism.

It's the way how I think. I have asked a professor in my MSN list to give it a name, and Extratellarian zo?tropism is what he came up with.

Extra - Above, Beyond, more than.
Tellarian - Tellus (for example; Earth).
Zoo - Life
Tropism - Place of -ology.

Well I Cant Say Religion Is Un-Touchable Cause If That Was True Then There Would'nt Be Religious Wars Goin On In The World Like One Of My Teachers Tolded Me I Cant Remember Were But There's Literally A Gun War Goin On Between Christain And Catholic And I Find That Funny MySelf Because They Have The Same Beliefs But Only Two Differents In My Religion They Even Tell Us The People Can Teach Us Well Me But You Dont Believe That Even The Children Of God Have Fall Short To The Glory Of Him And The Part Where You Said Try To Work Together I Agree With You 100 Percent On That One I Said It Earlier In The Thread But I Dont believe Religion Can Hold You Back Cause I Know Acouple Of People That Are None Believers But We Get Along Fine Too Me

explain limited.
Well, there's a lot more aspects to that what slows our overall development down. Religion is indeed one of them, but there's more to it. Having the earth divided in countries with different morals for example. Sure, culture and such have good influences, but currently I believe it interferes too much with international communication, which makes it an obstacle for international cooperative development in solutions that will make the planet better.

ok i get it, and i agree with you, reason i didnt go as far as you, was becuz the thread is about religion and i didnt really feel like going to deep into it.
but well said, i couldnt agree more, your Extratellarian zo?tropism as your professor called it, is pretty much what i believe to.

and uzicanSage, read his post, it basicly awnsers your question about the holding back part.
