I wonder why do they make changes like Konan's eyes (grey in the manga -> orange in the anime), Yahiko's eyes (blue -> brown), Kurotsuchi's eyes (pink -> black plus noticeably different shape), some facial features (Fu has a large nose in the manga but in the anime it's consistently regular/narrow), etc. Those are not mistakes but deliberate changes, but why do they do it? I can understand changing Rasengan from yellow to blue for more contrast, maybe the same goes for Konan's eyes, but honestly, things like these irritate me sometimes. Especially Kurotsuchi's eyes, IMO she looks way better in the manga.

Agreed, some changes can really be irritable (especially the change of Kurotsuchi's eyes) but maybe they want to emphasize some parts, like eyes for example, and make character more effective and interesting. When we talk about Konan, I honestly like her eye color, it's better than grey, but that's only in my opinion... ^___^

I like her better with orange eyes, too =D And as a reverse example, Kimblee's blue eyes in Brotherhood (in the manga they are yellow-ish, and in the first anime they're orange).

See? :win: Animators were probably thinking blue eyes would better fit his appearance, so they changed it. Although this is reverse example, it all depends on animators themselves and anime. They are seeking to represent the character in best way and are trying to do their best. =D

Well sometimes these changes are for the best, but sometimes they are pointless. Now I'm probably the only person left in the world who cares about Fu's nose (there used to be canon zealots on Narutopedia who refused to replace manga images with anime ones because of these tiny details, case in point: ), but why? Just why?

I've just seen his nose in manga and anime, and honestly, it's better without that large nose. Honestly, yes, you are probably the only one who cares about Fuu's nose.
If we both agree that animators should have made Fuu's nose they its showed in manga, you could never change that because animators (as all other people who think they're brilliant in doing something) admit their mistake. They'd consider that an insult... People are very conceited when it comes that someone who is not specialized in their job notice a mistake. Believe me, I've experienced that anger if theirs... -_-
And sorry for the late reply. ^___^

Lol, I'm not really angry, it's just that I don't like things clashing with my mental images >.> I'm an artist and I'm quite picky about details, and well, on one hand, I understand them taking artistic license, and I'm always happy to see more of my favourite characters, but on the other, I'd be happier to see them the way they should be (as in, closer to their manga images). And you weren't late at all =D

And yeah, I like picturing Fu with freckles, and they go better with the large nose somehow

Don't worry, you being angry didn't cross my mind, you didn't seem angry from your comment. ^__^
Yes, that is right, it can be confusing or irritable and I often don't accept some changes, indeed, but I must say that manga and anime aren't same, and that some characters in manga may need changes so that they can look better in anime. For example, if animators kept Konan's eyes green, how would that look when she's in Amegakure, where everything is dark there, where there wasn't no sun, but constant rain? Changing her eyes into orange ones changed that and emphasized her appearance. I hope you understood my point. But that's only my opinion. You're artist, so I suppose you know better than me. I only draw, so I can be somehow be considered an artist... XD
Yes, I absolutely agree it's better to show original characters which are Kishi's personal creations, but I've already explained why I agree that there can be changes sometimes...
Really? I've never thought about Fuu having freckles... When I imagine him like that right now, it may be good, combining frackles and big nose... :win:

I fully agree with you on Konan xd But you know, the definition of "artist" isn't something concrete. While I do have some art-related and colour-realted education (a course on watercolour painting, make-up artist course, a course of special drawing, hair colourist course), I'm mostly considered an artist because I've been drawing since I learned to hold a pencil and I also distinguish shades very well. But actually, as long as you can appreciate art, you can be considered an artist ^_^ I have a great book on it which is called "The art of art appreciation" (a liberal translation). In short, a viewer's opinion/interpretation is just as important as the process of art creation =D Of course, there is such thing as aesthetic taste, but it isn't something that you have or don't - it's acquired by studying art etc.

Er, I guess I strayed a bit too far from topic  And by the way, my mental image of Fu with freckles also came from my own random drawing ("Hm, there's too much space on his face, why don't I slap some freckles onto it?"), and it kinda stuck.

Yes, I also don't considerate art concrete. Each person gets it differently, so in my opinion, our conversation about manga/anime changes are quite subjective, as everyone sees those changes from different perspective. I can't give the exact definition of art, as it's a enormous term and cannot be defined by only drawing or literature or dance (as you surely know, there are 7 types of art). As each specialty, art is also complemented by studying, and I agree on that. Now, you can accept that theory part and agree with its content, or maybe you disagree, that's subjective and that's showed thorough artwork, which I like the most. I like hearing other peoples' views and that's what makes art magnificent and unique. I absolutely agree with that book's subject. =D
Oh, yes, actually, we did, but it doesn't matter! I like discussing with people on various subjects and thanks for sharing your views with me! :win:
Why wouldn't you add freckles? It may look cool, and that still depends on person, it's very subjective. But why not try? Changing the character in your own way can be really nice and interesting, because you can feel as an manga author yourself! :yayy:

Actually I always try to re-imagine manga characters in a more realistic style (for daydreaming purposes :|), and it often comes down to, apart from changing proportions of course, changing eye shapes slightly to less angular ones, changing hairstyles since they tend to be physically impossible in some cases (since hair is my specialty it matters a lot to me) and, well, adding details. So in this, I do take a serious artistic license :p

I thought I was the only one who is trying to imagine characters in more realistic way... It's good to know that I'm not the only one! :win: And it's hard for me just because if those reasons you mentioned. It seems art is your specialty! :yayy: (which isn't in my case)

I don't draw too often, actually, since each average-sized pencil drawing ends up taking up to five hours (in a row; and I prefer finishing them in one go, i. e. I don't move during this time), and I get pretty tired. I'm also better at drawing animals/mythological beasts than humans, but I can nevertheless draw passable portraits in a relatively short time (people tend to ask for them upon learning that I can draw). Again, it's just that I've been drawing for at least 20 years constantly, paying great attention to details like anatomy, simply experience, nothing special.
