Not a poem per-say, just something I have written and would like to share.

Everybody has a certain… issue. A phobia. An obsession. A tragic story. A life-altering mistake they’ve made. This… issue usually marks the height of adolescence. The truth is: teenagers are naïve, and extremely unoriginal. We have the classic head cheerleader, the punks/rebels, the class president/valedictorian, the quarterback, the geeks/nerds, other rich preps, badasses/burnouts/stoners, etc.

The cheerleader, albeit preppy and peppy, probably hates herself, thinks she’s fat, and has an eating disorder. The jocks are cocky S.O.B.s who obsess over their looks; muscles, hair, size… They use their woman-of-the-week as a trophy, and a plaything. The scene/punk/rebellious kids are probably way cooler than you give them credit for; even though they love all things black, they’re as bright as rainbows on the inside. The valedictorian is a paranoid perfectionist who has voluntary insomnia and suffers from some serious OCD. The rich people rely on their Visa and MasterCard, and the occasional Gucci bag.

Let’s face it… they hate themselves. No amount of therapy, or shopping, can cure their insanely messed up lives. The geeks enjoy their Star Trek and World of Warcraft, therefore never leaving their basement. They’re doomed to live in a world consisting of fire-breathing dragons and aliens; light-sabers and Chewbacca. Not that there’s anything wrong with the occasional fantasy… but let’s be honest, here. They won’t help you escape what’s staring you right in the face: High School.

The fact of the matter is, high school is a strange, yet relatively simple place. Once you hit freshman year, you unknowingly choose your fate: popular, scholar, or neither. Either you choose to focus on a brighter future, study hard, watch the opportunities pour in; or you choose to expand upon your social life. Perhaps it’s the attention you crave, the satisfactory route; ***, Alcohol & Drugs. It sure is S.A.D. Simple, right? Just choose one. This way, or that? Left or right?

See… some people – the cheerleader perhaps – party hard. She might end up getting pregnant. Might keep the baby, give it up, get rid of it. The perfect class president might turn to drugs to relieve the stress. They might throw away all of their opportunities, waste away, become an addict. The jock may never know how to treat a lady, he’ll be the player; destined for parties, steroids, self-obsession, and strange one night stands.

Me; I’ve yet to make my mistake, to figure out my ‘issue’. I classify myself as a by-stander; one of those individuals that observes and makes (sometimes unfair) judgments. I will not deny that I do not always stick to the ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ motto; in fact, I’m more of a ‘check out the cover and read the summary on the back’ kind of girl. But in my short 22 years, I’ve learned a lot about myself. I strongly dislike public speaking, and blush when I’m nervous. I hate it when people touch my sides, because I’m jumpy. I love music, and books and History. I read and write just a tad over the legal limit. I like to believe I could care less about what other people think of me, but I still take pride in how I look. I wear makeup – like a normal girl – and I actually digest my food. Because believe it or not being overly super skinny isn't attractive as most people think.

I did not write this to make fun of anyone or insult people. This is ment to show and say how people are typically stereotyped during school. I mean going through High School is one of the greatest experiences you may have in your young life. It's what you make it! To everyone in High School or going into High School. Always keep your head up! Never NEVER let what someone says about you effect your life. You are strong, remember that. Don't let what they say get you down cuz in 4 years the fashion, popularity and things you thought were important...you will come to discover ment nothing. Learn to love yourself, and the unique things about you. Embrace them, don't run from them. They make you who you are and define you.

Not to be rude in anyway, shape or form, but you said it's not a poem, yet it's in the poetry section? :erm: Maybe it would've been better to put this in the general discussion section, that's more so where topics like these are normally discussed.
I have a mild form of OCD that forces me to keep things tidy, clean and alphabetized. No one hates me more than me
No, you are wrong man, I hate you too.

I said PER-SAY. A poem does not have to rhyme or make sense. It's not limited to short, long or one line. This is the writers section, It belongs here. It's not a Fanfiction. This is NOT a General Discussion topic. It's something personal I have written and felt like sharing with the base. Don't use Hate on my thread. He is awesome.

Tell him not to use hate on your thread and you have yourself a deal, til then a personal message like this is also known to be posted in the general discussion. Now you can say this to me.....BUT LET ME say this to a mod, it can be the exact same thing, and my thread would get closed for it. That's why I seem like an azzhole now. Tired of bullshit. So every little something I find, I will exploit it.

Double Posting is against the rules as well. I wanted this here. It's written General Discussion is for News, Serious topics ect. People may choose to post there, but I won't. I have sent the link to Ira and I hope she closes this thread to prevent further comments.
