i wouldn't say kishi is sexiest, for one he never really objectify's the female characters in the series like some manga can, but it all comes down to him not being that good at female characters and you could argue that he is getting better at it during this whole war arc
also if he was truly sexiest then he would never have had two female leaders so that right there disproofs your whole point

Well, then how can you prove I'm wrong about Story vs Pairing threads on the forum? That's a direct effect from the manga for readers as us.

Yes and you should feel bad for being a woman.

But seriously he's not a sexist, you're looking too deep into that shit.

Maybe you're right dude. But Japan is a sexist country. Maybe he is not being sexist because he isn't consciouss of his behavior.

Nah, they just have outdated traditions that differ from ours. I don't think it's far as to say they're whole country is sexist, that's like saying everyone from the south is racist. Naruto just so happens to focus more on male characters, that's all.

It's more like bad writing than sexism.

What is this?
Just because Kishimoto doesn't develop female characters makes him a sexist? Its Manga (fiction) for christ sake.
Kishimoto has already admitted that he isn't good at writing female characters because he doesn't understand them. That doesn't make him sexist, he is being honest with himself.
You should be happy he includes female characters, even though he said he is not good at writing them. He could have chosen not to include any female characters at all.

Well sexism is something that society as a whole is guilty of. Men and Women have different things expected of them basically just because that's how it's always been. Sexism against men exists just as sexism against women but it just isn't really talked about. It's obviously clear that men have been dealt a better hand in a lot of ways.

There are things that as a society we can change, but there are others that would be more difficult. For instance, women are much more likely to be the victim of a violent crime. Why is that? Well it's kind of obvious...women are physically weaker than men in general(That's a scientific fact so don't go calling me sexist for this. Men are naturally more muscular than women.) so they are easier targets for criminals....an unfortunate fact of life.

Different cultures have different levels of sexism, but it exists in all of them. Japan is indeed a pretty sexist country, it has to do with gender roles and tradition a lot of the time. The world is becoming more progressive as time goes on, so things have gotten considerably better in modern times, and will probably continue to do so.

Ummm... look at most of the manga's and animes: DBZ, Bleach, Yu-Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, etc.

The females are underrated in them as well. Sure, in DBZ, you have Android 18 who is the strongest female in the show... but she doesn't do much.

Do you think that these different mangas would sell better if they were all about females, female development and female action? A majority of women aren't interested in this type of stuff. Men don't care about women unless they are are viewed sexually (which is why so many of the women in manga and anime are sexy --- big boobs, really curvy, and big asses).

-Guys loves action.
-Guys loves hot women.
-That is what the mangas provide.

Kishimoto is not sexist... he is not oppressing the female gender in anyway. If you want sexism and oppression, go to a Saudi Arabia.

2 out of the 5 Hokage are women, we have a female Sannin and Kishimoto has given some females the chance to be heroes (Hinata trying to save Naruto for example).

What more do you want?

^^^ All valid points.

Is Kishimoto a practitioner in misogyny?
Not at all.
Is Kishimoto a male chauvinist?
Doubtful.
Is Kishimoto mildly sexist towards his female characters?
If so, it's not blatantly apparent.
Is Kishimoto incapable of fully understanding females in general?
Of course, he's a guy.

I can state unabashedly that I'm fond of how Kishimoto handles his female characters, for the most part. Sakura played a vital role in taking down Sasori early on in part 2 and has had a few moments to shine, develop, and grow throughout the series as a whole. The same can be said for Hinata, as evidenced by her vicarious ability to summon brazen confidence in herself after monitoring Naruto's ability to do so as a source of inspiration. Ino and Tenten may not have experienced a whole lot of character development, but Kiba and Shino both have yet to acquire significant character development also.

I am extremely grateful that Kishimoto does not provide bull**** fanservice, seeing as I absolutely despise gratuitous displays of sexuality in my fiction. This alone has caused Kishi to earn a good deal of my respect.

You can't be serious. Just because Japan has a couple of questionable traditions and some sexist behavior here and there, you call the entire country sexist?

By your logic, seeing as you are a retard, I could call this entire forum base retarded.

I think there are definitely sexist overtones but how much of it is intentional we can't really say.

Kishi has admitted he sucks at developing female characters. This is pretty evident in his ignoring Sakura, making a boring one-trick pony out of Hinata, and Sasuke's straight up insulting and misogynistic apology to Karin. It's just bad.

Th fanbase is just as bad though. People say things like "Hinata deserves Naruto" without thinking through the implications of what they just said. The hatred/affinity for female characters based on looks or chest-size is another example.

Yes, Kishi comes off as sexist with his poor ability to develop female characters. However, the fanbase is worse.

I only saw two posts from you in this thread, none of them has something valuable to take, so I'll just ignore you until you say something intelligent.

I have been passive, I watched every answer on this thread throughtly. I'm pretty happy there are a lot of conclusions about the behaviour and the perspective from which Kishimoto makes the story. And yeah, I think I could rushed a bit telling that all of Japan is sexist, something that isn't entirely true. If something could only be categorized not as sexist explicitely, but as disociative, is the fact that there is the separation between Shounen and Shoujo. "Maybe" Kishimoto should not have tried to include shoujo factors in the Naruto's series (the whole pairing hyped scenes), but that is just my taste. Kishimoto tried to integrate both categories of manga, but it seems he is failing hard for a simple reason you guys gave me... Kishimoto isn't good with female character development.

I agree we should be grateful that Kishimoto doesn't go around with fanservice, that only would ruin the serious factor of the Naruto series. That said, I shall change my conclusions about the thread.

Typical western philosophy :heh:

Do you consider the western porn industry and hentai anime/manga as sexism?

Why do you see nakes woman if your tryin to buy a car? Isn't that sexism? Woman are portrayed as lust objects in western society and they are hidden in clothes in Saudi.

2 extreems and both are offensive!

But it's realistic at least. Men have always been stronger than women, because that is just the way we are built.

I can think of other manga's that are 100 times worse than Naruto.....

If you really dislike it, go read Claymore, it's about female warriors, lol..

Well.... IT IS SHONEN AND ABOUT A BOY (What the other people said).
There are anime about girls... (SHOJO) and with strong girls... Like Fairy Tail? (An example).
