yes ppl have died (Simon, Karen, Ul, Lucys dad, ...), no main characters though

the only one who really should have died (a LOT of times) is Makarov ... but hes awesome so im glad hes alive

why so *****y about ppl not dieing?

its an Fing story ... ever watched movies, main characters almost NEVER die but ppl still love them
oh yea and Lucy actually died a few chapters ago ... how could I have forgotten that especially since I read the latest chapter with Natsu sobbing over her right before I wrote my last post

but let me ask you whats better:
- main characters not dieing (FT, and OP kida fits in this category as well)
- main characters dieing but everyone just gets brought back anyways (Naruto, DBZ)

No one important has died in FT at any point. Fillers do not count as canon and even the villains are just knocked out and never actually killed. Future Lucy being killed a few chapters ago is irrelevant. She was not a character she was a plot device. There is a difference.

So no, no one dies in FT. Not one person.

Does that make FT a bad manga. Not entirely. While it's not on my list of recommendations, its reality impaired, friendship solves all the world's problems narrative can make for a good read if you're in that kind of mood. The art is very good and if a person reads manga for fanservice it's a pretty safe bet that Mashima is only using this as a test run when he finally starts drawing hentai.

At the end of the day it's the same cliche shonen manga most of you read anyway. The difference is the characters are actually endearing, so it's not entirely problematic for them to not die.

It's a fact that people have died in FT, so why are you saying not one person has died? A death is a death and any death is part of the plot and is used, one way or another, by it. So following your logic there has never been a single death in the history of manga writing as you define a 'death' something that happens outside the plot and is as a result not used by it, which is by default impossible as everything written is part of the plot. Unless of course you start considering stuff like that someone in real life gets hit by a car while reading a manga and dies.

The question was simple: do people died in FT? Yes they do. How frequent it happens and to who it happens was not part of the question.

you guys are truly pathetic. if no one dies in a manga that means it is bad? really? then go and cry in the corner on how bad FT is... btw people have died in the manga BUT it's not about how people die... this manga was made to have fun and not to have serious/deep story...
Good point though i must ask, what makes you think that? any evidence?

OT: Characters should die, some have died, but those some hardly even matter. I agree that FT needs serious deaths, more drama, and more development plot wise. This "boy searching for his dragon father" isn't going to do it.

Have you ever finished watching a movie/anime were the main character actually dies?
If so, you'll understand that it's depressing and it just doesn't seem right to kill the main because you get attached to them. That's why they almost never die.

You know full well that the death of non-named, non-developed items does not count as a death in manga. If we were discussing a video game like Double Dragon you would say the body count is ridiculous just because you're knocking over a bunch of mooks. You somehow confused the connotation of the opening with the denotation of what this discussion is actually about. Do characters die in FT? No. No they don't and you are aware of this. The window dressing of the townspeople, mook-tier fighters from other guilds, these do not count as fatalities because they are not characters.

Even Hitman Reborn - where characters survive decapitation, being burned, having a hole gouged out of them - knocked off a villain or three. Not FT.

what evidence do you want? just look at the manga and you can tell... from the very beginning it was this way, I don't get why people can't understand it...

btw how many main characters died in One Piece? why no one complains about that?

Yes they do, especially when the question clearly was whether people have died in FT, which they have.

What you are doing is using your very own subjective opinion about what a 'death' is, however that is very different from the objective truth that people have died. You can draw a line between nameless, sometimes even completely invisible people and real characters. Like in Naruto in the Shinobi Alliance where thousands of nameless shinobi got killed on and off-screen. Those still died, meaning the concept of 'death' definitely is used, but that you wouldn't count those I could understand as such characters were only used for practical purposes, often even specifically to just die.

But what you do is limit it extremely to only the core characters, disregarding the 'grey zone' where most characters belong in. Characters with names and personalities that have influence on the story, sometimes temporary sometimes for a very long time. It's in this zone that often characters who died originated from. If you disregard those characters and only focus on the main characters, intentionally removing a large group of other characters, then you didn't reply to the question, then you just tried to fit the question to your answer. He was the one who asked a clear yes or no question, not you. Did characters die? Yes they did. Considering he wasn't more specific, it means you need to answer it in the a general context and not in a narrow, subjective context.

People already gave examples, because the maker requested not to spoil anything, I will put it in a spoiler:

Simon died. Even if he wasn't that an important character for the overall series, he was beyond all doubt a real 'death'. He was given a name, he was given a history and was an important person for Erza, a main character. Recently his character gained even more depth as Kagura's older brother.

Zancrow en Asuma died, both main enemies of FT in the same arc. These were also real deaths.

If you do not count any of those as real characters and as a result don't see their deaths as 'deaths', then you just have proven what I explained, making your statement that no people died void. It remains a fact characters have died. If the question would have been 'has one of the main characters ever died?' then it would be a different matter, but that was not the question and this thread is about that question. Not to mention not many series easily kill off many main characters.

No one is complaining about "main" characters having contractual immortality. People are complaining about the lack of death in FT period. Several villains have been canonically killed in One Piece and two major characters have died in the war. People aren't expecting any of Natsu's crew to get deep-sixed anymore than they expect the Straw Hats to get deep-sixed. The issue people are having is the lack of "character death" in FT. It's fine for the main characters to live, people love them. But FT is a manga where even the villains are never finished off.

Yes they do, especially when the question clearly was whether people have died in FT, which they have.
No they haven't. There is a difference between a character and a non-character. The difference is development. You don't strike me as very bright so I assume you read Harry Potter. Let's start there. Suppose you have, idk one of the main characters. And suppose say "a young wizard walked behind Harry Potter and a bookshelf fell on on him and killed the poor lad" or something like that. That isn't a character death. It isn't a character death because it involved a non-character. Non-characters are individuals who do not receive any development. They can double as settings, they can even be plot devices like Future Lucy was, but without development they will always be non-characters. I'm sure townspeople have gotten set on fire or frozen or electrocuted in at least one panel after 330+ chapters but no, no one has died in Fairy Tail.

I know you didn't get that either so let's try something else. Suppose you're reading Hitman. Suppose it's Monday morning and Tsuna's school blows up because of a gas explosion. If the Vongola and Simon families are training or absent for someone reason there has been no character death. Even if we see the students run out of the school screaming and burning. There has been no character deaths because Tsuna's classmates are non-characters. And before you try to be a smart ass (and fail miserably) and say Kyoko and that other girl dies you'd be wrong because they're canonically Vongola.

Let's try One Piece. Remember when Don Krieg said that he and his crew encountered Mihawk on their way to the Grand Line and he lost his entirely fleet. This is true. However as far as we are concerned no one "really" died because Krieg's fleet was not composed of characters but non-characters - entities with zero development - who all only served to further Mihawk's hype. In other words they were plot devices.

Everything you have said is wrong.

But what you do is limit it extremely to only the core characters, disregarding the 'grey zone' where most characters belong in. Characters with names and personalities that have influence on the story, sometimes temporary sometimes for a very long time. It's in this zone that often characters who died originated from. You have not based this on anything other than the opinion of a 14-year-old.

Simon died. Even if he wasn't that an important character for the overall series, he was beyond all doubt a real 'death'. He was given a name, he was given a history and was an important person for Erza, a main character. Recently his character gained even more depth as Kagura's older brother.
Simon was a plot device. He wasn't a character. You even proved this for me by mentioning Kagura. Simon was a plot device to set-up Jellal's descent into evil and Kagura's hatred of Jellal.

Zancrow en Asuma died, both main enemies of FT in the same arc. These were also real deaths.
None of the villains die in Fairy Tail much like none of the villains have died in One Piece. Natsu has always knocked out his opponents. He's never killed any of them. In the same way Jellal returned from his "apparent death" the same will be true of these two. The reason for this is that not only is this a trope of Mashima's previous works but shonen in general. You can show me a panel of Natsu "defeating" Zancrow and Erza "defeating" Asuma but they have never killed their opponents. There is a distinct difference between a shonen hero "defeating" their opponents and a shonen hero "killing" their opponents. Unless you can show me a panel of Natsu or Erza decapitating their opponents or in Natsu's case burning them to cinders you are a liar. I'll do you one better than that. If you can show me a panel where Natsu drives his fist "through" someone I'll even take that as an execution. Even though we've seen plenty of people in other manga get impaled, blown up, burned, and so forth, I'll do FT that favor and I'll accept that as a character death. Give me the exact panels where Asuma and Zancrow are killed. NOT knocked out. Killed.

[A KO is not a fatality but you probably thought Luffy killed Bellamy 150+ chapters ago didn't you.]

If you do not count any of those as real characters and as a result don't see their deaths as 'deaths', then you just have proven what I explained, making your statement that no people died void. Once again, slow kid #16. No one is complaining about the lack of main character death in FT. No one is complaining about the lack of main character death in any manga. It's shonen. It's a given that the main cast has immortality. They just do. Naruto, Bleach, Hitman, even Claymore. Main characters don't die. What people are complaining about, again, is the lack of any deaths in FT, period.

Yes some characters have died but not any significant that would effect the plot has died besides maybe Future Lucy. If you want deaths clearly Fairy Tail is not for you. Hiro clearly stated that he didn't want to make Fairy Tail another Rave Master because it was to sad. The results to that is Fairy Tail a really light hearted manga with believing in your friends and family you could overcome anything and I mean anything. I say again if you want deaths Fairy Tail is not for you.
