Okay so, lots of people are really, REALLY, upset that Sasuke turned good and now they're pissed that Sasuke wants to become Hokage. Some even say it ruined the "final fight between the two", and that Sasuke wanting to become Hokage is stupid. I'm here toprove just how WELL this idea fits into the Narutoverse
So we know why Naruto wants to become Hokage. We learned it from the very first episode. He wants to become recognized as a great person, shinobi, etc. Sasuke came into this chapter declaring he wanted to become Hokage and people went apeshit. Why? Because he doesn't know what it means to become a Hokage? Well in that case, NEITHER DID NARUTO UNTIL NOW!!
Yeah! I said it! Check this out:
Naruto, as said before, and he even states it, that he wanted to become Hokage so that everyone acknowledges him. Sasuke just said that he wanted to become Hokage so that he could SAVE AND CHANGE THE VILLAGE
Sasuke was the one who met with "The Men Who Know Everything"
Sasuke has learned what the true meaning of being a Hokage is, recently might I add. The Hokages of Konohagakure said themselves that they failed as leaders. They did not do their job. Hashirama explained his story and what they all meant when he told Sasuke about the Madara, Hashirama, and Hokage deal. Sasuke learned that they failed to protect the village from hatred and anger. The Uchiha's isolation and it's massacre.
Sasuke says that he promises to save the village. From what? From hatred and anger. He promises to change it all. That's what Itachi meant when he said that becoming Hokage means you're acknowledgeed by everyone, not getting acknowledged AFTER you're Hokage. Naruto never knew that, BUT STILL WANTED PEACE SO IN A SENSE HE HAD 90% OF THE IDEA RIGHT. This is also why Naruto gets Itachi's words flashed back into his head AFTER Sasuke says he wants to save the village and change it. He now knows, just like Sasuke, what it truly means to be the Hokage and that's why he said he'll become the Hokage. I don't know why so many Naruto fans did not pick this up. It's actually really well thought out. It's ****ing amazing how Kishi did this.
That big final fight that so many people think is lost? It's not. It's even bigger than before. Naruto VS. Sasuke is the battle for Hokage. A REAL final fight. They're going to fight for the title. This is the final fight everyone is looking for, and it's going to be amazing!
Before I contridicte myself, I want to add:
Naruto is already acknowledged by everyone. The Pain battle. The War.
Sasuke is already acknowledged by everyone. His strength. His change of heart. Whether it's bad acknowledgment or not. If Hashirama accepts Sasuke, I'm damn sure the rest of them will too.
I don't mean to say Naruto is not Hokage material, not at all. I don't mean to say Sasuke is better Hokage material. I mean to say that they are the only two, from their young generations, as Asuma said, "The Kings", that know what it truly means to become Hokage and it adds so much more depth and epicness to this story. We may even get a longer series now that shows their continuation down the road to Hokage.
