So if I pick you up, then my mass is now the added mass between us? I can't tell if that's your implication, but that's what I can understand from your attempts to belittle me. Again, no, while you are right to some degree, you're still wrong in a scientific meaning of mass and weight. Weight is simply how much force is used when gravity is pulling on you. Which is why your weight is subject to change. Your mass will not change unless the physical make up of every atom in you changes. Though, if I pick you up, you do not become part of my mass, nor I to you. Again, I don't understand your implications, but from what I can decipher, your study in your degrees, or your professors, were horribly wrong. If you're being taught that if you pick up a dumbbell it adds to your mass, then you need another University.
@bold Well obviously, it's just measuring your mass... Your mass on the other hand is not the same as weight. As a common thing used in like grade school:
Weight=Mass≠Weight
No weight W = m g (mass*acceleration of gravity)
Since you are talking about how heavy an object is (kg or lbs) then you are referring to mass and not weight. Again, the unit alone can tell the difference. Weight is newton while mass is kg (base).
If you have dumbells try to pick one then go to a weighing scale. Obviously, whatever the mass (weight in laymans term) of the dumbell is, it will be added to your own. Please try if you don't believe me. It's as simple as that. I'm not trying to belittle but you on the other hand you did try to belittle me which turns out that you are definitely wrong.
I'll give you a tip: If you are talking about something with units such as kg, lbs, grams then it definitely is a mass. If the unit is Newton (N) then we are talking about weight. But if we'll talk in laymans terms, then most of us used weight instead of mass.
By the way, don't try to insult my University or professors, it's you who did not understand the basics. mass + mass = mass
