The fight in manga and in youtube if u feel lazy to read.

The fight started with sudden amatarsu from the solo king.
Nagato died but edo tensei made him regenerate then
Nagato attacked naruto and bee and he almost kill them .

Until itachi came and saved their ass's .
He told them to distract nagato with their attacks so
He can seal him for goood .

That's the whole story from manga.

Preta Path absorbs amaterasu (Kabuto just didn't feel the need to or doesn't known how to control rinnegan well)
Distracted nagato allowed the opportunistic Itachi to sliced his arm while he was busy focusing on Bee and Naruto.
Susano dissapears via Pretta Path or Shinra tensei will blow it away (Pick your choice!)
If Susano dissapears then no Yata mirror and Totsuka blade won't appear

I can't find anyone who can beat itachi except hashirama and madara.

Itachi deserves to be 3rd strongest ninja ever for many reasons:

- He defeated nagato easily
- He defeated deidara easily
- He defeated orochimaru so easily
- He killed all uchiha members easily
- He defeated kakashi, asuma and kurenai easily
- He was playing with kabuto before he defeated him .
- Nobody can counter his genjutsu beside susanoo is so powerful.


I don't think either sasuke or naruto can beat anyone of those opponents easily like itachi did.


Finally I am not itachi fan but I admit he's the 3rd strongest ninja ever and anyone denying this are only denying the facts from manga or just playing deniable

He isn't the 3rd strongest ninja in the narutoworld.
Madara,Hashirama,Danzo,Nagato,Naruto,Sasuke,Kabuto and Tobi beat him with high diff.The nidaime and the sandaime Tsuchikage have a chance of winning as well.

And honeslty, people debating about Nagato need to watch the anime. They don't have a good understanding on how much plot-help Nagato also had to do as well as he did. There was a lot of waiting around for Nagato to regenerate from damage Itachi inflicted so that he could use his best jutsu and make a good show before being sealed.

Itachi and Nagato's power was indicated to be roughly equal, with Itachi being the smarter of the two. It's just we never saw the large-scale illusion jutsu Itachi was hyped for (paralleling Nagato's large-scale ninjutsu) and Itachi's legendary items are scarcely even considered by non-fans despite Madara himself hyping them.

But I can bet to you with absolute confidence that Naruto can stomp Itachi and Sasuke with more feats with his EMS stomps Itachi ( heck, we can even argue that he stomps him now ).

Pain, Obito, Kisame, obviously Itachi are all more powerful than him. Hell, Hidan and Kakuzu might be able to beat him too with their invulnerability. Konan's pretty powerful too.
