They made it clear... It was for the Sanbi to rampage on Konoha..
Read the opening again because I stated why they chose Rin

Great theory
I somewhat agree with Derp, although I do hold my own thoughts about why they chose Rin.
It could be that it just happened to be her, but that seems almost too coincidental.
It's either Derp's reason, or OT's reason. Although I don't think there was any hidden motive behind their attack other than to just destroy Konoha with the Sanbi, yet still choosing Rin for a reason.
OT: The images aren't showing.
I agree that Madara probably was involved and I also think he wanted to kill Minato who at the time was one of the most dangerous Shinobi in the leaf
No, why does your clock always stop at Minato, this is ridiculous, Minato wasn't even 10% of what Madara was, to think that Madara would control Mist to kill Minato is a way too absurd thought. Minato is overrated, nobody wanted to kill him apart from some fodders
I think it was all Madara's doing thats why he was so sure Obio will return

Im more inclined to think Madara was controlling the Mist and he did that to Rin to lure Obito to his service.
I thought Madara will die right away once he disconnect himself to the mazou.. It coudn't be Madara. Besides, Obito was the one who controlled the Fourth Mizukage, & give orders to Kisame.
He was controlling it before his infirmity since The Great Second Shinobi World War which is around two decades before his encounter with Obito. He was not trapped in his cave during that time, Obito merely inherited that control of Kirigakure when Madara died.
