The reason behind this is because at that time, almost all Edos were already sealed or defeated, so the only threat that remained as an Edo was Madara

Like Kabuto even said, Itachi should be careful in his doings because he may not even be able to stop what could be stopped and cause the opposite to happen(and again Kishi shows the parallels with Madara)

Itachi eventually managed to release the seal, but here is where i believe Itachi failed again. Like Dan said, when a Edo is about to be released, he can control his own body

Like Madara said, when a Edo knows the seal, he can release the summoning contract. But since he was bound by Kabuto, he couldn't before. So basically, Itachi gave him the possibility to do so at the moment he released the Edo-souls recklessly

Massive fail on your part :| Itachi's goal was to stop the Edo Tensei. By that, it meant forcing Kabuto to release it, which he managed to do. Itachi succeeded in his own mission, especially having no knowledge on the real Madara being there.

Kabuto never had controll over Madara, he wanted to see what all he could do so he gave him free will from the start, I thought he stated that whenever he was talking to him through MUU. Madara could have released himself anytime he wanted.

Where the hell did you get that idea from? This panel doesn't prove what you said. An Edo regains their will right before they're released?

Anyway, Itachi didn't fail.

1. Madara was always fully in control of all his actions; Kabuto was never controlling him. And Madara could have at any point released himself from Edo Tensei. He always had that capability

2. There were several other Edo's that were preoccupying the Shinobi Alliance which weakened them overall. They were split up all over the place. And it's because Itachi released Edo Tensei that Dan even saved Tsunade.

3. Onoki called Itachi/Sasuke heroes, and so did Naruto

4. Not to mention that Itachi saved Anko, and whoever else was there and stopped Kabuto (ridding a very powerful enemy)

5. He also motivated Sasuke to reconsider his plans, which were then altered to revive the Hokage to assist at the battlefield

Whether Kabuto had info that Madara knew the seal or not is unknown, so that's a baseless assumption. Kabuto said Itachi could cause the opposite to happen, so he most likely was reffering to Madara. Itachi was simply reckless to release the souls unknowing about the possibility that an uncontrolled Edo could release the summoning contract. That's where he failed

lmao itachi prolly did more in that one instance than what most people in nv did in their entire lives.

And honestly i think your expectations were too high were you believing itachi to end the biggest war in nv history by himself. He came very close to it if madara didnt know the seals or someone who told him died out, guess what he would have soloed that war. Yes sasuke was with him and did help out but if itachi had intentions to use izanami form the start he could have accomplished it on his own.
