But the same goes for Itachi. Who says Mei won't just cover him in lava before he opens his eyes?

It really all comes down to the draw, and frankly, we don't know enough about Mei.

Still, I highly support this and believe that Itachi would probably have a lot of difficulty. Plus. Mei isn't stupid. Her mist technique would prevent Itachi from using his genjutsu and it'd become a game of cat and mouse.

Also, if the yata mirror is so GODLY. Why'd Itachi die so quickly?


Oh wait. He was physically sick and calling upon such a jutsu drained his chakara levels to the point of death.


His Susan'oo is a last resort, when all else has failed, don't think that he uses it all the time.

and her mist is also a double edge then since she would be affected by the haze as well and would not be able to dodge Totsuka as clearly.

Hidden Mist technique is a HIDDEN MIST VILLAGE technique. It's what every mist shinobi learns (or at least the 7 swordsmen). Suffice to say, if the Kage of a village doesn't know every jutsu that their village makes, they really shouldn't be Kage.

The only known factually canon battles we know Itachi CAN win for sure, is against Sauske, Kakashi, Naruto, Nagato (and that was not the 6 paths of Pain, which would have been more effective since Itachi's abilities are more one on one then group) and Orochimaru/Kabuto (and he had help with Kabuto).

EVEN THEN! Half of these battle were fought as an EDO, which means unlimited chakara and no loss of eyesight or a physical sickness that was eating away at him.

Alive Itachi almost kicked the bucket when he summoned his Susan'oo against Sauske. That Jutsu is a last resort and should be seen as such.

Kakashi used Hidden Mist on Itachi once. Yet Kakashi (kage bunnshin) got caught by itachi's tsukuyomi.
Mei is may be wise but not much wise as Itachi.
Itachi's level is probably on as Minato's level.
Mei is below level to Itachi's.

All the kage KNOW of them and most probably could actually use them if they thought it would help THEIR FIGHTING STYLE. Do the specialize in them? No, they have their own fighting styles.

3rd Hokage preformed a lot of jutsu that his clan currently is using against the Juubi if you wanted an example.

Onoki knows his particle disruption thanks to the last Kage of his village.

If you think that the Kage don't know of or how all the jutsu in their village works, then you should stop looking at EVERYTHING on face value.

Hidden Mist Technique is STATED to be a Village technique. WHICH means that EVERYONE IN THE MIST village knows how to use it or knows of it. To what effectiveness each Mist Shinobi uses it is a different matter.

Kage level ninja probably are pro's using it.

and Mei fought him without having any prior knowledge as to how proficient he is or how often he uses genjutsu

and considering the amount of hype Onoki gave to Madara, I'm sure Mei would be more cautious with him using genjutsu than she would with Itachi.
