which is 9 pounds per month

Not to burst your bubble but How does you brother know this stuff?
I happened to be at the Square Enix Q&A for Final Fantasy XIV today that just got out like 20 minutes ago and Im sitting in my hotel room for a few hours to rest for the Showfloor today. But anyways...
They havent announced anything about pricing and thats coming striaght from the mouth of the creator of Final Fantasy XIV.
It will use the graphics engine that Rapture was supposed to use. It was the same engine that FFXIII is using.
Another thing is that in the trailer they showed a little bit of the in game graphics engine. The part where the parties were fighting. The graphics look almost identicle to the look that the Rapture screenshots were. And the style was about the same.
It has been officially announced that It will only come to PS3 and PC so far with no plans so far for a microsoft console. Also straight from the creator.
It will be released 100% simultaniously throughout English, Japanese, German and French speaking Countries.
I trust the creator more than your brother no offense.

What platforms is Final Fantasy XIV coming to?
Currently the game is confirmed for PlayStation 3 and Windows PC. An Xbox 360 version isn't official, but Square Enix is considering the possibility that it could.

What do we know about the setting and the story?
It takes place on an all-new Final Fantasy world known as "Eorzea." Though it does share some monsters and races from Final Fantasy XI, they're not direct representations and have been altered in multiple ways that make them unique to Eorzea. The similarities in races will allow experienced Final Fantasy XI players to create a new Final Fantasy XIV character that looks somewhat comparable.

Does it have a direct connection to Final Fantasy XI?
In some ways, yes it does. Not only does it share the same development team as the FF11, but the game will also allow players to create a character that is similar to their current Final Fantasy XI. Square Enix has also revealed to IGN that it is currently finding a solution that will let you transfer your character's names from Final Fantasy XI to Final Fantasy XIV.

What is the combat system like?
The development team won't say, but it did confirm to us that... Additionally, the heavy team-play aspect of FF11 has been deemphasized, and now exploration and battle is said to be more balanced between solo and team play.

How does the leveling system work?
Square Enix is cagey about how characters advance, but it has confirmed with IGN that growth is not based on experience and that it will work on a different system entirely.

What about jobs?
Jobs will return in Final Fantasy XIV, but they will be much different than the job system present in Final Fantasy XI.

How important are the weapons?
Weapons are very important and have a heavy influence on your character and how they succeed in the game world. Square Enix says to look closely at the official Final Fantasy XIV logo for hints and hidden meanings about how the game will work.

What hidden meanings?
Square Enix told us that when it approached Amano to do the logo art for Final Fantasy XIV, that weapons were very important and to think of the concept of a "wheel." Specifically, a wheel of adventurers that has their weapon in front of them and an exposed backside -- which leaves each adventurer to rely heavily on their comrades and their friends. Let the speculation begin.

Anything else about the weapons?
The team let slip to us that choosing weapons for specific tasks one day versus another could affect how your character develops.

How much of the first trailer is in-game versus pre-rendered?
The debut trailer is actually a mixture of real-time in-game footage and pre-rendered wizardry. The combat scene in particular was created using the in-game engine.

What languages will the game available in?
The same as Final Fantasy XI: Japanese, English, French and German. Final Fantasy XIV will also be released simultaneously in all regions that use those languages.

Will the PlayOnline service be used for Final Fantasy XIV?
No. Square Enix told us that the reason it is ditching the PlayOnline system is because it was originally meant as an all-in-one solution to house multiple content types. But as PlayOnline has offered less content over the years, the need for the next online Final Fantasy to us PO is moot. Whatever new service (if any) is used, PC and PlayStation 3 users will still be able to play with each other on the same servers, and Square Enix also confirmed with IGN that you can sign in with a universal ID on either system to pick up where you left off if you own both.

Who's Working on the Game?
It is produced by Hiromichi Tanaka (Final Fantasy I, II, III, and IX) and directed by Nobuaki Komoto (Final Fantasy IX, XI), with art direction by Akihiko Yoshida (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII) and a musical score from Nobuo Uematsu (Most Final Fantasies ever). Yoshitaka Amano has designed the logo and is pulling additional art duties as well.

Uematsu only did a few tracks in Final Fantasy XI, how much is he doing for XIV?
Square Enix revealed to IGN that Uematsu will be doing all the music for Final Fantasy XIV and that it will be composed in a range of different styles and genres.

What modern day MMOs have influenced the design and direction of Final Fantasy XIV?
In addition to the team's original work on Final Fantasy XI, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan and Warhammer Online have been three recent games that have had some pull, but the Final Fantasy XI community's feedback has been the most important factor in its design.

Are Chocobos back?
Yes, they will return. But Square Enix has told IGN that it is looking at using them in a completely different way than they were used in Final Fantasy XI (where they were used as riding steeds).

When is it coming out and when is the beta?
The game will come out in 2010, and after Final Fantasy XIII which is scheduled for spring of the same year. Beta plans are still being finalized, but that the plan is to have a longer beta period than that of Final Fantasy XI (which had a beta of about 3-4 months).

It will not be released on PlayOnline though. The y announced it at E3 behind closed doors in which the creator was in attendance. Sorry but yeah that's what happened. Also Crystal Tools was used to create XIII. Xi's system could not handle XIV. They shown pictures of the game's system behind closed doors. OUt of the eyes of the public. I was in attendance. Im not trying to argue im just telling what was said at E3 during the Q&A behind closed doors at E3 with Square.
Hope this helps clear up a little bit.

I cant remember his name Im not good with Japanese names rememberance but here is the E3 coverage from G4tv.com who say that a Director and two Producers were there in which one was the head producer. lol. And Play Online wouldnt announce it because It will not be going through PlayOnline like they said in the press conference. Nothing has been said about P2P These guys are the only ones aside from maybe a few others in the world that know anything dealing with pricing. I dont doubt it will be P2p Because square wants money but it's just not announced yet.

11:54
The director and two producers just came out for FInal Fantasy IV.
11:54
It looks like this is all about Final Fantasy XIV! Surprise!
11:54
The translator just came out.
11:55
Sorry, I mean XIV on the first line. :)
11:56
The game may be on more platforms than just the PS3.
11:56
It is planned to be a massive MMO.
11:58
The producer is describing how the world in FFXIV is different that the one in XI.
11:58
The races are similar to keep players that liked the races in XI familiar with these new races.
11:58
Kind of like an actor appesraing in diffentt movies, but performing differnt roles.
11:59
Someone just asked a question about what is going to happen to FFXIV.
11:59
The prodcure is speaking Japanese.
12:00
I think I love him. He has produced some of the best FF games ever.
12:00
Seriously, if I run on stage and hug him I apologize. :)
12:00
Theyt have been working on this project for 5 years. FFXI and this were being made togegher.
12:01
They ar going to continue to support XI.
12:01
IGN is asking a question. It was long and I trailed off. Sorry. OOps. I will give you the answer, though.
12:02
Answer: As with World of Warcraft, they are focusing on more casual users to not sacre people away.
12:02
Follow up!
12:02
They are keeping secret on if it is more action based or turn based.
12:02
Hmmmm ... intriguing ...
12:03
During the Japanese I will give you my thoughts of what is going on ...
12:03
I am not a big MMO guy at all, but FFXIV, at least, LOOKS and SOUNDS amazing.
12:04
Okay, back to the translator ...
12:04
In FFXIV, they want to have a lot of content for both single and giant party players.
12:05
Question: Will there be a worldwide release?
12:05
Side note: I WANTED A CHRONO TRIGGER 2 ANNOUNCEMENT!
12:05
:)
12:05
Answer: Yes! Worldwide simultaneous launch. English. French, and Japanese languages at the same time.
12:05
Also, it is confirmed for PS3 and Windows.
12:06
2010.
12:07
Side note: I LOVE YOU GUYS! :)
12:07
GameSpot is asking a question.
12:08
Answer: The users voice is very important, so they are taking advice from FFXI users to create the game.
12:08
Questions: Will the community of XI and XIV live together?
12:09
Answer: It is up to the community.
12:10
They envision a world where epopel play both games.
12:10
If the users want a connection, on will be made.
12:10
*one
12:10
Question: Any quetions to translate the game in Spanish?
12:10
Answer: (laughs) Curently, no.
12:11
But ... if the users want it, it will happen.
12:11
Side note: Apparently, the users are dictating what they want with this game.
12:11
So ... I WANT CHRONO TRIGGER 2! Hahaha. 2D FINAL FANTASY! :)
12:11
Thanks, producers! <3
12:12
The producers and director are super nice and seem very excited for this game.
12:12
Question: Is there anything abou the current MMO genre that will impreved for this game? (GOOD QUESTION RANDOM GUY!)
12:13
Answer: They want to make the best Final Fantasy game.
12:13
To do that, we tohught an MMO would work best.
12:13
Side note: Really?
12:14
A lot of new systems will be used in this game that have not been used in the past, No word on what they will be.
12:14
Question: Why Final Fantasy and not a generic, new IP?
12:14
Oh, the translator got annoyed at that question for some reason. Lord, have mercy!
12:15
Haha.
12:16
Answer: We have been asked that question by a lot of people.
12:16
People wanted a follow-up to FFXI, but a simple port to the PS3 woud not work.
12:16
Therefore, a new game was made.
12:17
HAHAHAHA!
12:17
Hilarious translator joke!
12:17
This woman asked the audience if any Japanese-speakng people wanted to ask a question ... in English.
12:17
Amazing.
12:18
Question: is the trailer in-game footage, or at least from the game engine?
12:18
Parts were pre-rendered and parts were on the in-game engine.
12:18
Side note: You all should check out the trailr if you have time on the site! It's beautiful!
12:18
Wow, this guy asking the question is smart! He knows EVERYTHING about the trailer.
12:18
The game will look very similar to the trailer.
12:20
Question: Will the game feature 1 v 1, 1 v many, or many v many battles.
12:20
Answer: We can't say yet.
12:20
Question: What are the main highlights you want us to understand? What are the differences from FFXI?
12:21
Side note: it sounds like this announcement was originally supposed to revealed at this press conference. :(
12:21
Aw, I feel bad. :(
12:22
Sony grabbed the trailer to make its press conference bigger.
12:22
The characters are going to have an amazing job system and be very complex.
12:22
The world is going to be beautiful.
12:24
Question: Any thoght on the BETA process?
12:24
Side note: Um, this girl just answered he cellphone in the middle of the press confence. Ugh. She is so loud!
12:24
Seriously, super rude. I hope she reads this. I am going to give her a frowny face right now.
12:25
To girl: :( :( :( :( :( :(
12:25
Answer: No word on the Beta yet.
12:25
Question: Will there be a port of FFXI characters to FFXIV?
12:26
Answer: Probably not.
12:26
But, again, that may change depending on the users.
12:27
The Plan Line system is out, but your friend list will transfer over.
12:27
Question: I don't play MMOs. Why would I play FFXIV?
12:27
Shoot, I won;t have time for my question!
12:27
I had a good one! :(
12:27
Dammit!
12:27
Answer: Players will fall in love with teh world and the story.
12:27
that was the last question.
12:28
What an odd press conference.
12:28
All questions. What the heck?!
12:28
Huh.
12:28
Well, thank you so much for joining me, guys.
12:28
<3s all around!
12:28
And, of course, stick with Destructoid for the rest of E3. We would love you forever!
12:29
Oh, wait, one more thing: AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING! :)
12:29
You guys rule. Bye! :)
