Alas, you can't alter the seal up to such a big point. The seal is a seal, nothing more. It isn't a living thing that can think and say "Hey, that's not an enemy, abort explosion!!"

An alternate way is adding it to a kunai and throwing it to your opponent or over the battlefield. It doesn't specify being put on the ground, nor is it a continuous amount of chakra that has to be streamed, meaning that it is perfectly logical that it would work this way.

Anything else?

I like the kunai idea. Nothing else.

Indeed. I believe that this is a useful technique when the opponent doesn't have vision of you, because otherwise he would see you placing the seal. It could be especially against martial arts users, who like to dash forward and engage in a close fight. If you want to stay on the safe side and keep the distance, then this is a good technique.
I concur.

Nope. Thanks for clearing that up.

sorry for the long wait!

( Ho/Mizu/Kaze/Tsuchi/Rai Houin ) - Fire/Water/Wind/Earth/Lightning Sealing Method
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user takes out a scroll, and writes the name of the element they wish to seal in it. They then make four handseals, and a vapour comes out of the scroll, envelops the technique they wish to seal and seals it back into the scroll.
Note: This technique can only seal one technique up to S-rank per usage
Note: This technique may be used only thrice.

one of the most useful fuuin techs. You take out a scroll or take out a prewritten scroll (has to be in your bio) and write on it the kanji for the element you wish to seal. You then do 4 hand seals and the incoming attack will be sealed. Max up to S rank, no custom elements or KGs. Only basic 5.

Well, what to say. I'm sorry for being so late but it seems like it doesn't change anything since Wesobi quit his sensei position. I guess we'll have to look for someone else if we want to finish this. I think we should part now but if we get a chance to finish together, I'm in for it.
