Short, rushed, little or no real action, but necessary. Enjoy!
A silence stole over the battlefield on which Jiraiya and the Rokubi were engaged. The beast remained subdued beneath Jiraiya's sea of crimson muck while the Toad Sage stood triumphantly atop his largest amphibian ally and the bank of the sea of sludge. Jiraiya turned to his right, his eyes settling on the petite and elderly toad on his shoulder. “Sorry I had to disturb you tonight, Boss.”
“Nonsense Jiraiya,” said Fukasaku genially, “it is the duty of us older and wiser toads to look after the tadpoles.”
“Speak for yourself To-chan!” shrieked Shima, her pale yellow eyes flared wide and glared murder at her spouse. “Dinner- I was making some fried worms- it's all ruined!”
Fukasaku gave a exasperated sigh, shook his head and turned to his fuming wife. “Kaa-chan, you know we had to help Jiraiya-chan and Minato-chan- speaking of that blonde rascal, where'd he go?”
Just then, a loud patter of footsteps and the squelching of mud was audible as the Konoha forces, a bandaged Orochimaru at their helm, landed about Gamabunta. The pale snake user immediately ascended to the head of the toad.
“Jiraiya, we need to talk.”
Gamaken, on Minato's instructions, had drawn the Three Tails away from the Konoha forces, away from Kirigakure, and towards the outskirts of the foreign village. The new stage for their confrontation was almost barren, the earth bearing very little in the way of grass and vegetation, and cut across by a shallow river. Deathly silence loomed over the combatants, only broken by the savage roars of the Bijuu, the screeching of Gamaken's weapons and the occasional detonation of a Tailed Beast Ball.
The battle finally drew to a close when Minato claimed a decisive victory by turning one of the Three Tails' Bijudama back on the beast through an ingenious use of the Space Time Barrier. The singular explosion was more than enough to leave the Bijuu completely incapacitated, and the battered unconscious turtle floated serenely on the surface of the river. The land was torn apart from the intensity of the fight; the earth was severely cracked in some places, and the ground plunged into deep craters, which were formed from massive explosions, in others.
Minato, appearing to be completely unhurt and without the slightest trace of fatigue, looked down on the toad on which he stood. “Ah, thanks for your services Gamaken. I don't know how I could have done this without you.” said Minato, his tone light and his voice gentle.
“Alright Minato.” groaned the amphibian, before he disappeared in a bloom of white smoke, leaving Minato alone with the subdued monster.
The Yellow Flash sighed. It had indeed been a long and tiring night. From battling against a horde of Kiri ninja, to receiving the title of Hokage, and then fighting a Bijuu. He sauntered towards the edge of the river where his colossal opponent lay defeated. Rearing on his feet, he carried himself to the top of the beast in a single jump. A light tap on the great shell of the Sanbi allowed the Yellow Flash to mark the Bijuu with his seal of his Space Time technique.
“I wonder what Jiraiya-sensei's up to?” mused the blonde shinobi as he molded immense amounts of chakra via a distinct hand seal. A second later. both he and the beast had vanished in a large blaze of yellow.
“You can't take the Six Tails back to Konoha! It is Kirigakure's Bijuu and stealing it will only lead to another Shinobi World War!” roared Jiraiya. The Two Great Sages had vacated his shoulders, his nose had returned to normal and the markings about his eyes had faded. The yellow horizontal line in his orbs had returned to the normal circular ebony irises; the Sannin had left Sage Mode.
Orochimaru remained silent and indifferent despite Jiraiya loud protests against his proposed course of action. Both Sannin were arguing atop Gamabunta's head. Orochimaru's hands were folded and his shoulders relaxed as he stared at his furious teammate. The rest of the Konoha forces watched the disagreement between the duo from the ground, none daring to intervene.
“It is astounding just how limited your thinking is, you boisterous fool.” said Orochimaru placidly. “Konoha isn't exactly in a position to honor such old and outdated treaties. We're low on manpower and-”
With a loud poof and a blinding flash of light, Minato appeared in their midst, a small distance away from where the Konoha forces had gathered around the arguing Orochimaru and Jiraiya. The Yellow Flash was perched atop the conquered Three Tailed Giant Turtle.
“It's Minato!” cried one of the Konoha shinobi excitedly, a wide and joyous smile brightening his otherwise grim features. Murmurs broke out amidst the Konoha troops.
“...singlehandedly? A Bijuu? At such a young age....”
“...that guy's amazing...”
“...not even the slightest injury...”
“Ah, Minato,” said Orochimaru in a high cold voice, a sinister grin appearing on his gaunt and thin face, “just the man I wanted to see. Two Bijuu in one day. The Hokage will be pleased that my squadron was able to capture them. ” he said as he leaped off Gamabunta and was now striding towards the Bijuu on which Minato stood.
“Orochimaru-san,” began Minato as he landed from the top of the turtle he had brought with him, “what do you mean?”
Orochimaru and Minato were quickly joined by Jiraiya. “Orochimaru thinks we should take the Bijuu to Konoha with us.” said the Toad Sage in a raspy voice, one that was far deeper and menacing than his usual jovial manner of speaking.
“Of course we should!” said Orochimaru. “It would strengthen Konoha's military and minimize casualties in battle. Minato, talk some sense into this buffoon you call a teacher.”
“Such an act would only provoke Kiri to intensify their efforts against Konoha.” declared Jiraiya. “Things can only become worse from this.”
“If they come against us, then we'll destroy them.” countered Orochimaru, a ruthless glare in his dull yellow eyes and the brows above them knitted, as he met Jiraiya's gaze. “It's that simple.”
“Orochimaru! How can you say such a thing?! Konoha's ideals are those of peace and-”
“Yet we fight a war!” hissed Orochimaru. “We fight and we kill and we lose our loved ones. Foolish peaceful ideals have no place here! I'm simply being realistic!”
A stiff tension fell upon the gathered Konoha shinobi as they stared, disbelieving, at the Sannin who continued to heap insults on the ways of the Hidden Leaf.
“In war, only strength matters, only powerful jutsu matters. The weak and foolish will perish, only the strong will survive. The lofty ideals passed down to us from our forefathers have no meaning! Their empty talk couldn't stop war and bloodshed in their era and it is powerless to do so in our generation!”
“Orochimaru,” began Jiraiya, his voice reduced to a whisper, an expression of complete shock painted on his face, “the Will of Fire- I mean...” the Sannin trailed off and ceased to speak, the surprise leaving his face. After all, he already knew that Orochimaru had changed greatly.
Minato cleared his throat rather loudly, drawing attention away from the two Sannin and to himself. “I think the question of our next move should be thrown to the majority.” he turned towards the Konoha troops. “All in favor of stealing Kiri's Bijuu, raise your hand.”
A small amount of hands were lifted amongst the group of ninja.
“Those against?”
Almost every hand was lifted this time, Minato and Jiraiya also raising theirs in agreement. A dark shadow passed pver Orochimaru's face, and he sunk his head and sighed.
“Sorry Orochimaru-san,” said Minato, “I guess-”
“It's fine!” breathed the pale Sannin. He lifted up his face in order to look upon Minato, and the blonde barely stifled a gasp. Orochimaru's expression was the very picture of murder; his face gaunt, thin and darkened, his brows drawn together and furrowed, his eyes narrowed into slits and burning with fierce indignation, and lips drawn to a very straight line. Waves of pure, toxic Killer Intent radiated from his thin frame, filling the air with a thick dense cloud of cold malevolence.
“Orochimaru!” growled Jiraiya. “What are you doing?!”
The Sannin merely walked away from the gathering of shinobi, the murderous chill in the air lifting as he did. “Let me know when you're all done with your childish indulgences. Konoha would be lucky if its so called 'Will of Fire' would not be the death of it.”
